Silver State Classic, Nevada
Hi All, It's the longest running open road race in US.-22 years. I was course worker on 9/20/09. Starts just s. of "Lund" and runs s. for 90 mi. Current record is 208 mph. average. Any takers?? I plan to run the "Huffaker GT 1", there in May.First timers can enter max of 110 mph. class. It's basically a timed/speed rally with classes starting at 85 mph. average through. 180 mph.class. One "unlimited" class.Participants from around the world. Lots of fun. Ya'll Come, roverman.

Re: Silver State Classic, Nevada
We're planning on running the Magnette there in 2011, it was originally 2010 but financial restrictions have made that all but impossible.
The aim is to be at the World of Speed with the beastie and then follow it on with the Silver State Classic with a friend of ours, Bob Powers, who is an experienced Silver Stater. Our biggest issue is going to be carrying enough fuel. By then the engine will be either a twin turbo (preferable but more expensive) or a twin pro-charger on a 434ci LS2 block pushing over 1000bhp. The current fuel cell only holds 12 gallons which may be optomistic! On our last trip to Bonneville in 2007 we were driving back down to Vegas on the day of the Silver State, not realising it was on until we saw all the cars and transporters on their way back up on the return road. After all the travelling from the UK to Bonneville we was a little upset to realise we'd missed the opportunity....revenge will be ours and we will participate. I presume something like this is pre-entry only? |

Re: Silver State Classic, Nevada
Sorry for delayed response. Yes, 6 mo's or more should be good. Unless your Mario Andretti/etc., you may have, "trouble" entering above the 110 mph. class as a first timer. Sounds like you have a, "little" faster in mind? I would "peep" their webb site prior to contacting = lots of answers. Hope to see you there. Good Luck, roverman.

Re: Silver State Classic, Nevada
I was hoping to go for higher than the 110mph class as the Magnette tops 200mph on street gears but never mind, if that's what's needed it just means I'll have to come back to go faster.
To be in it will be a great experience. :) |

Re: Silver State Classic, Nevada/ Nigel Mansel ?
I suppose it's possible, if you had a "famous" driver like..Nigel, they "might" let you enter a faster class, provided required safety equipment for given class ? If you just want to go fast in a straight line, There's the "Maxton Mile", El Mirage, and Bonneville. If you want "cheap thrills", in road racing that would likely be, Chump Car Series. Most of these venues have webb-sites. Good Luck, roverman.
