We really need a thread for this, I've forgotten what the dates are for instance. Paul and Mary Schils are hosting the meet, someone else will have to fill in the other details.

I called and left a message Saturday morning asking for an update... so I'm confident we'll have much more info soon. There will be an announcement in the next newsletter issue, plus a thread here with a "sticky" or "announcement" tag.

In the meantime, the most recent info (including dates and host hotel) appears here: [www.britishv8.org]
(or... just click on the "Meetings" button at the top of all ~480 pages of the website)

Here's an update from Mary and Paul that I received by e-mail this morning:

----
Quote:

As the snow flies our thoughts are filling with plans for this coming summer’s British V8 2008 meet here in Wisconsin.

As was announced this summer, the main meeting motel is the Country Inn & Suites, (phone: 800-456-4000) located in Port Washington, Wisconsin. The dates for the MG V8 2008 are from Sunday evening, July 12 through Wednesday evening, July 16. This is one of the busiest times of the year in southeastern Wisconsin. Please make reservation now because rooms are impossible to get closer to the date of the event. We are planning a catered banquet, Wednesday night at the hotel. At this time we will have an auction. Anyone wishing to donate any items to this, please let us know. The closing banquet will include plans and suggestions for British V8 2009.

The Brian Redman Vintage races held at the Elkhart Race Track and starts practice on the Thursday following our meet. If you are planning to stay on for these vintage races please include these extra days in your plans and reservations. The race runs through Sunday, July 20.

The motel has a great parking lot. Paul has been busy with recruiting people to do tech sessions. We have the availability of an overhead lift so chassis viewing will be easier.

One of the attractions we will be listing will be a trip to Experimental Aircraft Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. We visited it last summer and were very impressed. One person used a Rover V8 to power his airplane.

We will be visiting the track at Elkhart Lake prior to the race. The track has so much interesting history. Classic British sports cars were a big part of this history and there are some that still race here. Check out their web site. There is also a British car parking area on the surrounding grounds where you can park and socialize with other enthusiasts.

In January we will have an itinerary and official registration form available.

We hope that you all will have a happy holiday season.

Actually, the dates are July 13 - July 17.

You'll probably need to call the motel directly instead of the 800 number, 1-262-284-2100

See you there!

Just got back from Road America in Elkart Lake with an update.

We are planning on traveling to Road America on Monday, July 14,2008. The track is about 45min from our Motel and we'd like to arrive sometime in the early PM. The Porshe people have the track rented, but we'll be allowed entry and can tour the track grounds and observe the action in the paddock. Later in the afternoon (exact time to be determined later) we'll meet at the VIP tower and get a tour of the Hospitality Suite, the Media Center, and Race Control with their fiber optics system. The Porshe people should be off the track by then and at this time we'll be allowed to tour the race track with our cars. Because of liability, we will have to have a pace car or two to keep speeds under control (this means you too Carl). In any event, it will still be an exhilarating opportunity to experience the the track "first hand".

Tuesday, we're planning a trip to the EAA Museum in Oskosh about 1hr 15min from our hotel. For those not wanting to go, there will be opportunities to visit the area, a drive through the Kettle Moraine, Kohler Company's Design Center, the John Micheal Kohler Museum and countless other ideas.

I'm working on the registration form and an itinerary for the event. These should be available in Jan 2008.

Make sure to get your hotel reservations early and mention the MGV8 event to receive a discounted rate.

Paul

What?! I always have it under control. Sort of. ;)

Thanks, Paul, for actually getting us out on the track. Awesome!

Any idea which Porsche people? Is it the PCA? If we bring the Posche, Jon might be interested in seeing some real track time, albeit he is a MUCH slower driver then me ;-)

The Hospitality Director just mentioned the Porshe Club. I had no reason to inquire further.

Updated info...

I just called the host hotel, and they're filling up already. I could only get a confirmed reservation for a "smoking" room, although they made a note to change it to "non-smoking" if someone else cancels. Sounds like we may fill our room block!

Do we have a back-up hotel just in case we fill this one?

Mary and I just checked with the host motel and they have more rooms available. The original block of rooms is almost filled. Curtis, we were able to change your room to "non smoking", so don't start in the meantime.

I just learned that I could save $5.00 a night by having AAA. The rooms are $87.00 or $82.00 with AAA.

I attended my first MG event in 2002 without an MG. The car was ready by 2003, but I had broken my leg so I missed Towensend.

I have attended every one since. I always look forward to seeing people that I can't see on a regular basis.

I am not a mechanic, I am a carpenter. But I have worked on my cars over the years. Ths site helps me get thru the doldrums of winter. So let the countdown to July begin.

I'm getting excited about staying over in Wisconsin and seeing the "Kohler International Challenge w/ Brian Redman"!!!

Information about the event is here: [www.roadamerica.com]

Tickets have now gone on sale... but I understand we can get a special group discount if we hold out and purchase as a group. Here's the note I got from Paul about that:

Quote:
We will be able to get tickets for the Brian Redman Vintage Event at a 20% discount. Per the Director at Road America, if we determine how many tickets we'll need and on which days, we can present that info to her at our event on Monday, July 14th. We can gather the info at Registration and collect appropriate fees at that time. I'll have the pricing and we can do the transaction with one (1) check.

QUESTION :

How many people are seriously considering staying around for the vintage races?

Rick says "......looking forward to catching up with all of you!""
Would that be in your "B", one of your "C's" , your "V8" or some other non-descript vehicle. Just wondering what is going to show up in Wisconsin.
.......by the way, the seats look like a million bucks - very nice!

Wow... I hadn't seen shoulder harness holes cut and trimmed into Fiero seats before. Very, very cool!

(Of course the embroidery is outstanding too.)

These are a Mr.Mikes kit. He did the embroidery for Pete. The leather flaps will fold back into the seat once the shoulder harness belts have been threaded through the seat.

I will be venturing into Fiero seat rebuilds via Pieces of Eight! Interested parties can contact me offlist.
