BritishV8 2009: back-to-back with a BIG vintage racing event!

This year, almost everyone who attended the BritishV8 meet in Wisconsin screwed-up and failed to stay over for a weekend of awesome racing action at Road America. So, you missed seeing an MGB GT V8 gobble-up Porsche's... http://www.britishv8.org/MG/LesGonda/LesGonda-Banner.jpg

And you missed hearing a couple dozen 60's-vintage Can-Am cars roar around America's fastest road-racing venue:
http://www.britishv8.org/Other/MarkDonahue/MarkDonahue-A.jpg
( now THIS is what I call a "British V8"... a Chevy-powered Lola T70 )

BritishV8 2009 is similarly schduled back-to-back with a fantastic vintage racing event at a premier racetrack:
The Heacock Classic Gold Cup Historic Races (June 5-7 at "VIR", near Danville VA)

It's too soon to be sure, but most likely there will be at least THREE MGB GT V8's racing this year. I've also heard a rumor that this race weekend has been named by "MGVR" (MG Vintage Racers) as their annual focus event... if so, that will guarantee an especially high level of participation by MG cars.

Don't miss it!
If you're making plans to attend BritishV8 2009, why not schedule an extra day or two for the races?

Curtis, great idea for those who have the time. For anyone who likes vintage racing having the MG Vintage Racers around is a great show with a lot of really neat cars. I was lucky enough to join them at Hallett, OK a few years ago and saw some great racing as well as some rare and interesting cars.

It wasn't that we screwed up.

Sometimes work schedules take priority.

For My two cents (and this is NOTHING against Paul and Mary) but I'm hoping THIS scheduling of the meet AFTER the race event works out better for Gearhead spectators.

You can come a day early, catch a day of the actual RACES, and then hit the meet. In Wisconsin, you really had to stay TWO extra days, because Thursday was just a test day and Friday was official practice. (Everyone races on Sunday except Lime Rock.)

ADDENDUM:

This from Jerry Richards, who races a GT-V8:
Quote:
What about this for a coincidence. The British V8 organization are having their annual meeting 60 miles down the road the same weekend starting on Sunday. I am in touch with them to see how many of them would make it to attend the SVRA Gold Cup MGVR race.

I have it confirmed that all 5 MGB GT V8 will be attending. A sixth is being built by Adrian Corta in Florida, probably wont' be completed in time but it would be fantastic if it was. Les is having to rebuild the front end of his car after a shunt at VIR. I'm going to have to have an engine that was built in 2000 freshened and Keith is working on being able to raise his left arm to change gear after recent rotator cuff surgery. Be assured we will be there!!

Once we have numbers from the British V8 registry on who will be attending I will be in contact with SVRA to see if we can have a couple of parade laps with the MGB racers leading the way and also arrange for a photo opportunity. It will be a modern historical day.

Please pass this on to other interested parties or local MG clubs and I will add them to the mailing list.

Regards,
Jerry.

So... get to the track on Sunday, get to TOUR the track behind the racecars, and even get in on a photo op!! I'll hear more about when it will be (on Sunday)in the weeks ahead, but I'll need to know from YOU if you plan to attend so I can give the SVRA official an estimate of attendees!

Thanks,

Max

Max,

While you are at it, find out what time we need to be there on Sunday. I'm 5 hours away & will likely drive up Sunday morning.

That's awesome Max. I haven't formally registered or booked my hotel yet, but I'm planning to be there this year & will plan to be there for this too.

Max,
Margaret and will arrive on Sat. We can help set up on Sunday or we can go to the track, whichever you need.
Let me know.

Steve
