Here's the "other side" of the story...I found this posted on a different BBS in response to my post:

Re: California Police Raid Gathering of Enthusiasts
I wonder if they even bothered to just send a dozen officers to simply walk the place if that wouldn't keep the peace, not bother people and also let them know that eyes were on those who disobey laws made to keep the public safe.
They are also talking about 2 deaths. Unfortunate but I probably have a much larger chance of dying in a daily commute. Here is a crazy idea- take that half million dollar grant away from the police and build an affordable raceway. Not that I am for funding any type of private business in this way, but its known that California (and Minnesota) has lots of people fighting the building of race tracks, so people go race in the next best location- the street! -BMC. |

Ain't that the truth. Here in Florida they closed the only track in our area, so we too...take to the (least populated) streets.

Sometimes I get pangs of guilt from missing SoCal so much but I am glad I am out of that Nazi state.

I’m so incredibly surprised at this. I’m back in Texas now but I lived in LA, San Diego and Ventura for years, was a member of the San Diego MG Club as well as Hot Rod Clubs in LA (T-Bucket Roadster). I spent many an evening in parking lots and never once got hassled. Makes me wonder if a third party with an axe to grind was making complaints or there is an unknown agenda at work; maybe someone who can’t tell the difference between tuner cars and classic British sports cars.

"To Serve and Protect", back when I was a "Barefoot Pilgrim", I actually used to believe this crap. "to serve"-means tickets. "Protect" means special interest. My life experience has shown there is no movement afoot to show a better way or rehabilitate errant behavior, only fines and impounds to stuff the coffers. roverman.
