Has anyone heard from Rob? If my geography is correct, he doesn't live too far from Houston.

Phil, Rob and his family are fine. Wife and her Grandmother left Houston on Friday to ride out storm away from area. Rob was/is traveling and plans to return to Houston via Dallas in a rental car. His neighbor called and advised there is minor flooding at the Lake house but appears only minor. Believe the primary house is on high ground. Maybe updates will follow later

Rob had maybe 1" to 2" of water downstairs the other day when he looked, it was down when he was there looking, hopefully he can get in there today and cut the sheet rock out about 2' up the wall before mold starts. This all depends on all the new rain that is coming in + the release of water at the lake.

Calvin

Update:
Rob said he kind of dogded a bulit on the damage. Some areas maybe a foot of sheetrock, and others just base boards....didn't need to remove cabinets. Water is down!

Thanks for the thoughts (& emails/txts from others). We are blessed, it could have been way worse (and was for a lot of people in Houston). Places that have never flooded before - including our house - flooded with this storm. We are blessed; very little damage - especially when compared to so many others.

Here are a few pics of our house to help visualize...

Back yard normally...

And from the other side of the cove...

Different angle, but same back yard on Monday...
2017 Hurricane Harvey flooding & flood damage (11).jpg

Water was about 1/2 to one brick high above the slab & seeped in through the weep holes in the brick work. Had to cut out a foot of sheetrock in the back but just baseboard height in the front of the house. Interestingly the insullation was just damp, not soaking wet like I'd expected (& have found when helping others in similar situations in the past).

Luckily no furniture was damaged and the cabinets in the kitchen weren't damaged.

One more pic for perspective on how fast the water came up. Now, this lake is 21,000 surface acres. Consider how much water it has to be taking in to go up that much that fast (basically 24hrs). Now, factor in that they were releasing 25,000 cubic feet per second much of Saturday & by Sunday night they were releasing 80,000 CFS. It's staggering.

Glad you didn't get too much damage, Rob. Going to be a long, hard road back for a lot of people. Stay well.

Beautiful place Rob.
Makes it worthwhile to put up with the odd "glitch".
You should have it good as new in no time.

Live like you mean it.
Fred

PS next time it floods...close the gate! :-)
