We're going to Ontario next week to spoil our grandkids, then on to Myrtle beach in early May. Any suggestions for keeping us off the Interstates and seeing some great scenery and attractions? Time isn't a big issue, no set schedule. Thanks!

Ken Hiebert has a map he uses where he has marked all of the good roads. Are you driving the MG?

Thanks Ken for the maps, they'll come in handy if we make it as far as West Virginia. Dan, I won't be driving the MG. We've got a few things to take for our son in Ontario that will not fit in the B and I'm planning to pick up a set of new tires for the B to bring home.

The Builtmore in Asheville NC is worth checking out. Not automotive related but does show what life was like for the wealthy back then.

Also check out some North.Carlina style Barbeque.

Does anybody get carsick? There are lots of scenic drives in WV, VA and NC mountains. If you travel through WV, on US 19 you will cross the New River Gorge near Fayetteville. We were in this area on Saturday of last year's BritishV8 meet. US 60 travels east-west, so it would not be on your direct route, but it has some nice curves and Hawks Nest State Park, where we had our picnic, has lodging, trams into the gorge and an overlook. Fayetteville has some touristy type places, like a mini Gatlinburg (really mini!) Pies and Pints, Secret Sandwich Society and Cathedral restaurant are some good eateries. There is also Smokies, just north of the bridge, that overlooks the gorge. There is an exhibition coal mine in Beckley. Just off the interstate in Beckley is Tamarack, a showcase of artistic things for sale.
When we go to Myrtle, we usually take 77 to 73/74. You go right by Pilot Mountain in NC and Mt. Airy, Andy Griffith's hometown. Winston-Salem, High Point...but we are usually in a hurry to get to the beach. When you get close to Rockingham the interstate ends.

Thanks for the info Dan. I've tried on occasion to make Pam carsick but no luck so far :-) We'll probably take 77 and 73/74 as you suggested. No firm schedule to get there so may detour a bit.

There is a very scenic drive, curvy road with overlooks and waterfalls, etc. that you could detour on your WV route. Take WV20 near Clarksburg and follow it through Buckhannon, French Creek, Hacker Valley, Diana, Cowen, Craigsville then follow 55 back over to 19. It will take a good bit of time to do this but you can see a lot of the countryside. The state game farm is at French Creek. There are historical markers along the way like one showing where a hollow tree was that a family lived in during pioneer times. Holly River State park is along that route. WV state parks were build mostly by the CCC during the great depression. I plan to drive that route tomorrow evening or Friday morning. If this doesn't get Pam queasy, nothing will.

I'm in Winston Salem and schedules permitting would love to meet up with y'all for a meal or to show you around our Historic "Old Salem" or the nearby Blue Ridge Pkwy sights. We have a spare room if you want to stop in this area. 4-4.25 hours from
winston-Salem to the Beach.

If you are wandering anywhere near Maggie Valley, NC, the Wheels Though Time murdercycle museum is well worth the time.
