This is a site that was started to provide low cost rental of specialty automotive tools. It seems that there isn't a big selection yet, but I like the idea. The link is below.

Not a bad idea Jim, do you know anyone who has used it? I've got a Moss Motors king pin bushing reamer which has been used exactly one time. I'll use it a couple more times at least but not great utilization of a $300 tool. On the other hand, before I ship it out I'd want some assurance that it'll come back in good condition.

I think I read that a deposit is required and there is a process to recover damages if the tool comes back broken. I believe you also need to have a Pay Pal account. It might work well for smaller tools that are used infrequently.
They also have do it yourself videos that you can view.
I may try it out with something small like an inch lbs torque wrench or a Phoenix Systems reverse brake bleeder.
This site was featured at this years SEMA in Las Vegas.

Hey guys... I just happened to come across this thread while doing a google search. I am actually the owner of the site and am here to answer any questions you might have regarding how it works.

I saw above that you were wondering if anyone else has used the site before. I encourage you to read this thread on the BMW E46Fanatics site: [forum.e46fanatics.com]

I have used the site in the past to rent a bushing press tool. Zero issues. I love the idea and highly recommend it. There are several tools in my cabinet I could have avoided buying. I need to do an inventory and upload the more useful ones to the site to recoup some of my investment.
