My apologies...
Probably many of you noticed that this website got bombed with about four or five hundred spam message threads today. I noticed while at the airport in Toronto, waiting to board an airplane and fly home... So firstly, my apologies for any frustration the attack may have caused.
I've got some temporary fixes in place now, but it looks like I'll need to modify the website's registration system with a more sophisticated captcha algorithm. Deleting the spam messages is a tedious job - I don't know any way to do it except one at a time - and my instinct is that there's extra value in deleting them promptly so as to discourage continued / future attacks. In my haste to kill spam, I shot at least one innocent victim: I apologize to all the TR8 racing enthusiasts, because the outstanding thread about the "Targa TR8" got deleted - totally by mistake - and I think that's an especially great loss because the thread contained so many excellent photos. I don't have a clue how to recover the file... so I hope Mike Perkins and company will be willing and able to re-post the best of it and continue their discussion. |

Re: My apologies...
Curtis,
IMHO Spammers need to get the death penalty. :( Re authentication, have you looked at add on modules for external authentication for the forum? (ie: [www.phorum.org] ) Might make it a bit more difficult for these jerks. There is also a module for logging moderator actions that might, in the future, enable you to "roll back" some of your changes. ( [www.phorum.org] ) Another option is to restore your last backup to an offline site, extract the thread from the database and insert into this database (it's "mysql" right?) using straight sql or a utility like "TOAD". Hope these ideas help! Why were you in Toronto? Let me know the next time and perhaps we can arrange a group of enthusiasts to take you out for a drink or two.... Keep up the great work on the site! There's a reason they say nothing ever disappears from the internet. Here's a link to the cached thread of the Targa TR8, should help you to restore it. Re: My apologies...
Curtis,
No need whatsoever for an apology. I'm certain that everyone here appreciates the dedication that you have to this site. It's not your fault that there are levels of society that entertain this type of behavior. As far as the Chinese stuff goes, just another reason to not buy that junk and spend your money at home. I'm with Martin. Let us know when you're out and about. We won't do any thing, just want to keep track. LOL Seriously. If I had known you were at the Soverin races in Kent you would have had a place to stay and a guaranteed good time. I have a place in Bellevue and my sister has one on Mercer island. If you're ever at Mission raceways same deal. And you can see some of our cars run to boot. Cheers Fred |

Re: My apologies...
Ditto Cincinnati area.
I saw the number of new posts and just figured I'd wait a day or so until they went away. No real inconvenience. Much worse for you than for any of us, so likewise, no apology expected. JB |

Re: "There's a reason they say nothing ever disappears from the internet. Here's a link to the cached thread of the Targa TR8, should help you to restore it. [webcache.googleusercontent.com]" That shows the first page but none of the other 6 pgs. How did you find this and can we find all of the other pages somewhere? M. Edited 2 time(s). Re: My apologies...
Disclaimer - I'm not a computer nerd but figured this out like I do most mechanical repairs ... screwing it up over and over until I find something that works. Here's how Curtis can recover the "Lost Pages of Targa TR8"
1. Enter the following search term into Google Search : britishv8.org/read.php?9,13483 2. Once you get the search results, go to the bottom of the page and it will tell you some of the pages with similar info were omitted and give you an option to perform the search again with all the terms. Do that. 3. This result will give you all the pages. Next to each page will be a choice for "cached" Hit that and it will show the pages before they were deleted. On the page at the upper right is a choice for "text only" By hitting this, you get the text and urls for the pictures. Hopefully, Curtis can cut and paste this to resurrect the old pages. Wow just my wedge got the chopping wedgie block! Man no love! I can go an repost everything. I have it all in another forum. This is a simple question but would it be better served in the "Projects" section or where it has been?

Mike,
I just reposted your thread where it was and am working on re-establishing the photo-links. Great thread and great project. |
