2013 BritishV8 Meet

I would not have started this thread, but I could not find 2013 anywhere. I know Bill is hosting it in Omaha Nebraska sometime in June, but a search didn't bring up anything relevant.

Anyway, heading back from the Texas meet I had an idea I thought maybe we could kick around. It might apply more to 2014 depending on where we have that meet but it might work for Omaha too. Omaha is about 750 miles from here. For some of our brothers it is more like 1500. And although it's true in most cases that driving to the meet in your LBC is half the fun, that does tend to wear a little thin once you get out into the corn and windmills of the midwest. Anyone remember the train rallies they do over in Europe where they drive to a central depot, load the cars up, ride the train to a distant place, unload and go on their merry way? What if we could do something like that for Omaha, at a cost that was competitive with our fuel costs? It wouldn't necessarily have to be a train, it could be a car hauler and a tour bus for instance. But I'm just throwing an idea out there, kick it around some and we'll see if it has any legs.

Jim

This was done by Gene Fox, Ian Pender, and Dave Deerson as a means to get their cars down to Florida from New Jersey when MGV8 2002 was held in Sebring.

We also looked into it for participants of MG2011 in Reno.

It can be $$$$$.

I was thinking the Triumph guys did the same (Tim Lanocha & Mike Perkins).

Jim, you mountain boys sure is hard to please about your roads, if it doesn't have a turn in it for a mile or so you get bored? LOL I have a company I've used to transport my Lotus from Colorado and now the Jag from Texas. $575 from Palestine to KC one way of course. Might get a bit of a discount for multiple cars, but there is no schedule those drivers keep and you have to be there to receive the car on the other end and pay in cash. I did get several estimates and this company was the cheapest by a pretty good margin, All States Auto Transport.
I do understand though, the drive is long and boring, I know I've driven the Midget and Jag almost 7000 miles in the past few years going to events around the country and every trip starts out through the cornfields and windmills as you say.
If you guys do come up with something I think we could arrange a way to receive the cars on the other end if necessary. Or have them shipped to KC and drive up from there.

A whole mile without a curve? I'd probably take a nap. ;)

Tail of the Dragon - 318 curves in 11 miles.

Kansas - 11 curves in 318 miles.

I've been told you don't need a road map in Kansas - you can stand on your bumper and see further than you can drive in a day.

PS: I grew up in the flatlands of northen Indiana, so these Tennessee hills were new to me at one time.

PPS: A group of college students once did a study and found that, proportionally speaking, a pancake does indeed have more hills and valleys than Kansas.

PPPS: I've never been to Kansas, or Nebraska, so I'm looking forward to visiting.

A party in the RV or tour bus on the way would be fun. We could watch Top Gear reruns all the way and make up some good lies to share in the parking lot.

If anyone wants to take a decent drive WHILE you're here, there are some really nice touring roads in the Loess Hills (google it) running north from Omaha along the river on the Iowa side. Our car club does a rally on those roads every fall and it's a lot of fun. Maybe not like your mountains, but a pretty curvy/hilly run through the country on paved two lanes. There's a small town with fairly big tavern with good food that caters to the bikers/vintage car set with a huge grass parking lot across the road. Anyway, I know there's a lot planned already for a short time and there needs to be plenty of parking lot b.s.'ing time reserved.
