Winter Party

In keeping with a tradition begun by Ted and Judy Lathrop and the Spurious within range of their home, when they were unable to host the winter gathering last year Edith and I offered to host. We had a small but very cordial group and some interest has been shown in doing it again.

However despite my leanings toward tradition I believe if we are to do this thing we will want to change some things, starting with the date and the name. Everyone seems to favor waiting until the weather breaks and this coincides rather nicely with another development. For those who have followed the Maxton Mile you know that they moved to Wilmington, OH last year. That is about an hour from here and I believe they begin operations about the end of April. (and Mid-Ohio raceway is not far from there) Now I realize this is only two months from the Omaha meet but if that sounds like something folks want to do we could make it happen. We can call it something like the badass rendezvous if you like.

It will be open to anyone with an interest in British sports cars, regardless of their engine choice and we will even welcome Puritans.. uh, I mean Purists ;-) Wankers otoh... well, we'll just have to see. Personally I'm pretty tolerant of most folks.

I would post this over on MGE as well but I've not been able to post anything over there this morning. Possibly something to do with the hurricane. Maybe tomorrow.

Ted is quite a talented craftsman, I wish that he participated a little more on this forum as I enjoyed watching his work in progress such as when he built Dan Master's GT.

I don't think he is overly fond of computers.
To be honest, that car, Terry Schulte's, and some of his other work were inspirational in the gestation of the MGB-Roadmaster. So you might say that we are still honoring the tradition if we decide we like the name suggested above. Ted and I have been good friends since we first met, I squired him about in his TR-6 for a weekend, and we caught Les napping and provided the remedy.

I like the idea of going to the mile races.
Count me in.

What does it take to get a run at the Maxton Mile?

Carl,
I used to run at Maxton. Safty check was done. Very easy to pass. Had to have a helmet that met a certain spec. You can check their web sit: www.ecta-lsr.com. They should have everything listed.
It used to cast $120 for the weekend with no one day deals. I think they discussed a one day price, but it was after I stopped running there.

I (a newbie) would be very interested in attending the Ohio badass run. Won't have the "B" ready by then but I'd really like to meet those with my same interest. I'm in Michigan so it would be an easy run for me.

Sorry if I dropped the ball a little om this. I tried the ECTA (East Coast Timing Association) site and couldn't navigate it with my Kindle. Just went back there and the first event is April 27-28 2013 and then they go to June, July, and September. Apparently only four weekends. So if anyone has a reason why we shouldn't get together April 27-28 please let us know. Location will be here on Gunpowder Rd in Florence KY, directions later on but it's easy to find. Accommodations close by and it's a rural road only 2 miles from the mall. (How oftern does that happen?) A few reasonably good driving roads close by too, and by then it should be starting to get warm.

So let us all know your intentions. Everyone is invited.

Jim

To early to say for sure, but most likely Jim Watson and I will be there. Maybe Jim will have his V8 running by then.

I can do a Kentucky run as well. I'll watch for details.

Sounds good guys. I think we will change the name though, winter really isn't appropriate for something that is really dead in the middle of Spring. I think we should call it the Spring Awakening. I'll start a new thread with that name.
