Winter Thaw, Spring Fling Thing, Gentlemen Start Your Engines!
The East Coast Timing Association (ECTA) has scheduled their spring event at Wilmington, OH (formerly the Maxton Mile) for April 27th and 28th. Registration to participate is required and they seem to indicate that space is limited so if you want to make a speed run you should look up their web site:
[www.ecta-lsr.com] Registration opens Feb 1st. Thursday, Steve DeGroat (Steve is a former Maxton Mile participant) is bringing the MG-Roadmaster up and will help me with getting the Lab set up for the weekend. If anyone else wants to do that they are also welcome. I have a downstairs guest suite for the early arrivals. We will plan to run up to Wilmington on Saturday morning, and if anyone wants to go back Sunday that's up to you. I do not know when they open and activities begin so if someone has that information please let us know. I do not know of any plans to run the Roadmaster though, that is up to you guys. Hotel accommodations are numerous and clustered around the I-75/US42 interchange. Blackwood Labs is about 2 miles away. I can't really recommend any one particular motel, but perhaps we will eventually develop a preference. We might do well to follow the lead of those who have been here before, so please speak up if there is one you particularly liked. If several people prefer one I could see if they can give us a group rate. It should be warmer by then so if anyone wants to camp out or throw down a bedroll or cot in the Lab there is plenty of room. The address here is 9406 Gunpowder Rd which is exactly centered on a 1.2 mile stretch between the major intersections at US42 (bottom of the long hill) and at Mt. Zion Rd (traffic light, 5 lane bridge with 2 unused lanes) in Florence, KY. (I-75 exits 180 and 178) The road itself, oddly enough once you clear the intersections, is a somewhat curvy 2 lane and you will be looking for a white board fence with stone posts. The concrete drive is your access point, the Lab is at the end of the gravel extension. As for other activities while you are here, there are some decent local roads to check out, and we will have the usual bench racing and bull sessions and most likely pots of chili and stew up on the mezzanine. Nothing else is really scheduled but maybe we could get a tour of Terry's restoration shop while here. You'll want to bring your favorite refreshments of course and if the weather is nice we may fire up the grill. If anyone wants to bring a snack or desert I'm sure it will be appreciated by all. It's an open invitation to anyone interested in British car modifications, and not limited to engine conversions. Odds are, we'll all have a real good time. Jim |

Sounds good Cap'n.
Space is available on a first come basis so Steve will get the bedroom and I think Dan has dibbs on the couch. If you have an inflatable mattress you might want to bring it. One way or another though we'll find a spot for you. Jim |

If I can make it, I'll take up some floor space, again, down in the manly dungeon. :)

Re: Winter Thaw, Spring Fling Thing, Gentlemen Start Your Engines!
Should be plenty of room. If we get pinched for space there are a couple of quite comfortable couches upstairs and Matthew wouldn't mind sharing the big king sized bed with us if it comes to that. We've done it before.

"The East Coast Timing Association (ECTA) has scheduled their spring event at Wilmington, OH"
I was totally unaware that Ohio HAD an Atlantic Coast Line . . . I ALWAYS get so wxcited when I begin reading this sort of post, expecting something close by, Connecticut or maybe New York. They're usually held in Ohio or Detroit. You guys all gotta get a map! |

Wilmington isn't even close to the east coast of Ohio, aka Ohio River. located in West Virginia....
Probably using the NCAA conference realignment map. |

Re: Winter Thaw, Spring Fling Thing, Gentlemen Start Your Engines!
Time to revive this thread. There was something I wanted to add, Dan and I were discussing it but I've forgotten. Anyway we're getting closer. Oh yes. Motels.
Several of you have stayed nearby, if you'd like to, post your reviews of where you stayed, maybe we can choose a good pick and I'll see if there is a group rate depending on how many we expect to come. I was thinking Knight's Inn over on Dream St. might be a good choice. Plenty of fast food within a short walk, but hey, I'm not the one renting a room so let me know what you want to do. Jim |

Re: Winter Thaw, Spring Fling Thing, Gentlemen Start Your Engines!
Jim and Edith provide legendary hospitality at their place, but there is only so much room. We had a great time last year at the Winter gathering Jim hosted. It should be even more fun with good weather!

Re: Winter Thaw, Spring Fling Thing, Gentlemen Start Your Engines!
Jim,
Max has Roadmaster. I will not be bringing it, unless you want me to get it back from him. Do not know his plans for it. Let me know what you want and I will try to work it out. Steve |

Re: Winter Thaw, Spring Fling Thing, Gentlemen Start Your Engines!
OK, thanks Steve. There is no real need for the car to be here, I was thinking maybe it really ought to make the northern loop next and maybe Richard Moor could dial in the carb. Someone will have to work out how it gets up there of course and I expect PJ might be willing to help again, especially if we can keep from stranding him. But I'm just a member making a suggestion and you guys can do what you think is best. If bringing it here makes more sense I'll do my best to make room for it even if something else has to sit outside.
Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again and the more the merrier. Steve, you're more than welcome to come early as always. I think we'll have a good time here and a fun adventure at the speed trials. We'll put on the stew pot and make up some chili as usual. Jim |

Is the plan to drive up to Wilmington on Saturday April 27 for part of the day? Do you have any idea of their schedule? Maybe I should look on the website....
