British V8 2014 - Date Change
Posted by: lars49

The dates for the British 2014 are changing. The dates originally selected collide with the 2014 Glenwood Springs Rallye and the NAMGB 2014 meet. I have also received the dates for the 2014 Hill Climb and speed week.

All this said, I will be checking with the hotel to see if these dates are open:

July 13 - 16, 2014

Sounds like a plan.

Do you have a hotel picked already, or is there still some flexibility?

In the other thread, Jim Blackwood just wondered about less expensive options and even mentioned the idea of camping.

My wife and I and some friends had a great visit at the El Colorado Lodge motel in Manitou Springs a couple years ago. - [www.elcolorado.net] - A place like that would be a big change of pace from a Hampton Inns we've stayed at these last two years: quaint adobe cabins with fireplaces! (As if we'd be using those in the middle of the summer...) With only 26 rooms/cabins, El Colorado is on the small side for our BritishV8 gang... but thinking of it got me thinking that there are probably other interesting and affordable local-flavor options. Incidentally, there's a Comfort Inn next door to El Colorado. Perhaps that would cover our group's overflow?

The Tally Ho Inn in Townsend TN has served BritishV8 very well... I tend to think of it as the gold standard. When we've filled it, people have have stayed at the motels down the street and I think a few people (Kayak Jack?) have camped nearby.

Curtis -

I am already working with a Comfort Inn on the north end of town and have been quoted rates last year that were in the mid $70's. I am going down to talk to them today and see about changing the dates.

I thought about Manitou Springs and submitted an RFQ through the Manitou vistors bureau and and did not get a single nibble.

For those with more upscale tastes, there's always the Blackberry Farm just a few mile down the road from the Tally Ho. [www.blackberryfarm.com] They were voted by Bon Appetit magazine as the nations number one resort in the nation for food.

A tad on the high priced side, though. Rates begin at $895 for a "King Estate" room and run up to $5,600 for the Farm House.

I've never been there.

I suppose we could do the Broadmoor - the cottage suites only run about $1300/night :)
