BritishV8 2013 Track Day Photos and Weigh-In Results

Here's a very preliminary draft:

BritishV8 2013 Track Day Photos and Weigh-In Results

Thanks to Graham, I've got a pretty good start on this one... but we're conspicuously missing on-track photos of some of the fastest cars.

• Larry Shimp's MGB GT
• Pete Mantell's MGB (at relatively close range)
• Ken Hiebert's TR6 (second fastest best lap time of the day)
• Phil Leonard's RV8 (a REAL racecar - I'm hoping someone photographed it ON TRACK.)
• Terry Schulte's MGB GT (in its first ever performance event - congratulations Terry!), and
• Doug's Brown's Mini (note: we also need weigh-in results for this car.)

Who else? Please advise who I've temporarily forgotten.. and please send photos if you have them.

Do you have a closer photo of Pete Mantell and his MGB in motion?

Do you have a photo of Max Fulton and Rick Ingram measuring tire temperatures in pit row?

I'm also looking for a nice photo of a car on the scales, being weighed.

Please help!

I've added two more photos PLUS Max Fulton's tire measurements and recommendations.

Did you take photos of the cars on track? On the scales? In the paddock, even? I'm still missing photos of some of the participating cars. Please help!

How about some more track times? I thought sure I had second with my puny little 160hp car. :)

Curtis, I cannot get your preliminary link to work; it keeps saying "URL not found on this server"; maybe it's my Mac-Pro?!?!?! I'd love to see the weight of some of these MG......

Ooops. I renamed the file, and forgot to update this thread. Fixed now.

Today I set up a hub page for BV8-2013 articles. You can find it under the Meetings tab at the top of this page. New slideshow! And a new "Meetings" page has been added with the latest dates from Larry...

Does anyone knows who has the lightest (weight) MGB, with a 302 engine? Is there anyone running Ted's front end with the 8" rear with composite spring? I'm curious as what the lightest figures it can be taken down to?!?!?!

Be careful with those composite leafsprings. I understand Don Coleman broke one of his recently, causing a minor accident. He's got a lightweight car: [www.britishv8.org] (1979 MGB. Fast Cars front end. 8" rear w/ disc brakes. Composite springs. But alas not the engine you asked about. 2228# wet. I reckon it'd be ~60-80# heavier with Ford engine. Air conditioning weighs it down a bit too. So do its over-sized wheels and tires. An early MGB bodyshell would be lighter than the '79... but by how much?)

Steve Carrick has the lightest 302 B I am aware of. I believe he uses the Fast Cars front end, not sure about his rear axle. Check out the British V8 2007 Autocross and Weigh-In Results summary in the Meetings section of this site. His car weighed in at 2209# at that meet.

I'm pretty sure that Steve has an 8" Ford diff and was using composite springs at one point in time.

He indeed has a FastCars front suspension.

Steve had composite springs that delaminated. He ditched that & built the first 3 link (that I had been talking about doing for years) in an MGB. Pretty sure he has 9" with an aluminum third member.

The write-up on "Barney" is older than the pics that show his new front & rear suspension.

Thanks everyone for the answers concerning the weight; however, I thought that it may be possible to get an MGB's weight down to around 2,100 pounds. Curtis, on my (on-going) project, I have a Doug Jackson composite rear suspension with tramp bars; I remember him clearly saying that I must purchase the tramp bars with the V8 to prevent spring rapping and delimitation under the high V8 torque. Jim Stuart has the same composite springs under his yellow GT (with the Buick 300) for the past 10-12 years and never had any problems even under hard take-offs; I had his car on my lift and the springs still looked like new.

Never-the-less, I would definitely had purchased one of the links systems out there if any were available for purchasing at the time. I have tremendous money invested in this project with too many areas that I find myself second guessing my components or approach; it drives me nuts (LOL). Meanwhile, I enjoy driving around in my Monster Miata (5.0L,V8) which it is a blast to drive with all of the modern technology, however, it just doesn't have the leg room, the seating comfort, or the charm the MGB has to offer; it's great around town but, at six foot tall, it kills me on longer trips (although, I'd love to see what Carl could do with it at the meeting's auto-cross.)

Cheers

Fellow weight seekers,

The SCCA MG RV8 GT2 car weighs in at 1,583lbs - empty.

After 250 lbs added with the driver
After 170 lbs of gas
After 150 lbs of lead weights

The MG RV8 weighs in after the race at just a little over the required SCCA weight of of 2,101 lbs.

We've passed thru Tech 8 different times successfully !

keep them on the track

Excellent. I've made two or three tweaks to the article to reflect recent posts here...
