BritishV8 2013 Track Day Hot Shoe Award goes to...
Carl Floyd & his woefully underpowered (160hp) 1979 MGB. Congrats. :)
It was quite obvious to all the spectators that the Carmine Red MGB was faster than anything else on the track through the corners. It managed to match lap times with a certain TR6 that was 40mph faster down the main straightaway. Disclaimer: Calvin did post one lap that was a half a second faster, though it was not backed up & the timer was not confident with the result. The other TR6 was awarded 2nd fastest time of the day based on a conversation, as it was not timed. Seriously?! FYI: For the record, Carl did qualify (7th) for the 50 lap go-cart Finale, but chose not to run. |

Now, to be fair, I think it's quite likely that Max Fulton would have cleaned Carl's clock with the Brooklands Green MGB GT if (a) that car's owner hadn't been sitting there as dead-weight and distraction in the shotgun seat, and (b) if Max had been able to run multiple sessions instead of just the final session of the day. (Dammit!)
--- Great job, Max! It's not easy to get into an unfamiliar car and go so very quick. --- And, it's a pity we didn't have transponders (for more accurate timing). Maybe next year. |

For the record, he did drive multiple sessions. Max drove my car the 2nd or 3rd session, forget which. He drove yours on the last one & was slowing me down cause I was following the Brooklands Green MGB GT. ;)
Your car did look very good out there, as did Larry Shimp's GT. |

Brenda shot some short video's of several cars at the track. We will post them up soon (this video format is hard to post up in hd). We sent Curtis some of our photos, and our in car video first session on the track(pictures on a cd and go pro on a dvd.. Maybe Curtis can post that up? I left our go pro camera on after the session for some time after. So we caught some other stuff on there. In one of the video's Carl was going good in front of the grandstands ;-). So there is proof Carl....video's don't lie!!
I do know that Ken and I were doing pretty well out on the track. When both Brenda and I are in the Tr6 together, us fatties are packing over 3000 lbs around the track. Where are you Ken, Phil? 1 here sounding out for the Triumph section!! |

I'm also packing close to 3000 lbs around the track, with just me in it.
Here's the BRG TR6 on the scales: 2,924 lbs with me in it, (2/3 tank of regular gas): Katie lined up for the last session with a hungry cat behind her: Myself on the track: Katie shot this video of me chasing Calvin and Brenda: (please excuse to quality. It was shot with an ancient camera) Track Day at Mid-America Motorplex was a blast but I could have managed it a bit better. I will rework my fuel delivery and venting systems if I do much more of this, right Carl? I don't mean to whine or make excuses but I must admit, powering down the straight away at 120 mph and hammering on the brakes in order to survive the corner when you're close to 1000 miles from home, in a different country, can be a bit intimidating. Katie had one good session which she enjoyed. I had an excellent session with Calvin which was the highlight of the day. My other two, I was mostly out there alone, (matter of circumstances). On our second to last session, the engine was starving for fuel on the long right handers, (I need a better in-tank fuel scavenger), so I left the track and FILLED the tank with fuel. Katie drove the next and last session and as Carl will remember, (sorry about that debacale Carl), on the long right handers, "the fuel was pouring out like from a garden hose", (I need a better venting system). Again, my apologies. Naturally, were we black flagged and our day was done. On that day, assumed there would be no timing and scoring and I must admit, I worked hard to stay with the Californians. In the end, I was happy nobody broke anything and we all left with grins on our faces, (we even saved a grumpy old turtle on the way out of the complex). |

Snapping turtle wasn't it? (I always heard turtles have 7 kinds of meat. Tastes like chicken?)

Well, I started this tongue-in-cheek thread largely because of those pesky Triumphs! Clearly, I must find some more ponies to keep up with them.
3000 lbs?! What are those Triumph frames made from, cast iron? My '68 Camaro only weighs 3050 with a half a tank of gas & some tools in the trunk. Thanks again to Bill Young for setting up such a fun play day on the safest track I've been on. It was a real hoot drifting thru turn 1 at nearly 70 mph! |
