Oldest photos of us having fun with British sports cars
It might be fun to share some of the oldest photos in our collections.
Got a photo of yourself in your first sports car? Maybe a photo of your dad and his? Scan it. Post it here. Compared to some of you, I'm new to this whole British car thing but I'll prime the pump the best I can. Here's my dad and his MGB during the summer of '71. (I'm the youngest of five.) It's your turn! |

Re: Oldest photos of us having fun with British sports cars
I got my first MGB in college in 1965. Unfortunately, no pictures of the first car survived. It was lowered with a built 11:1 compression engine that I drove during the week and autocrossed on the weekends. It was painted a pretty Cadillac Firemist blue.

These pictures of me in my 1964 MGB were taken in 1966....I was 23 at the time...as I recall this was just after I drove my MGB out west and down into Mexico....I removed the passenger seat and would sleep in the passenger side one night and then on a roadside pick nick table the next....I was a lot smaller then and not very bright...some things never change haha

Re: Oldest photos of us having fun with British sports cars
Guess I am late to this party! Only photo (Polaroid) I would have is from 1992 when I got the Blue B I own now. Wait!, I had a Spitfire in the Summer of 1969, for 4 months, purchased for $100 and drove it until I fried a Rod Brg. and sold it for $50. Never lost any of the Lucas Smoke or had any idea one needed to add oil to a carb. It provided my future wife and I a lot of fun.

Re: Oldest photos of us having fun with British sports cars
Got some pics somewhere (???) of me and my 1966 Sunbeam Alpine bought new. My next LBC was a 63 MGB roadster that I owned for a short time from 72-74 until children started coming into our lives. Don't think I ever took pics of that one.

Re: Oldest photos of us having fun with British sports cars
Here's my first car - it's a '64B purchased in September of 1967. The curious feature of this car was that it had 4 gear synchro transmission (which didn't become available from BMC until the '67 MY). I speculated that the dealership must have replaced the xsmn just prior to putting it in the used car lot.
Keen observers will see my 2 wheel mode of transportation (a 1965 Yamaha 250 YDS3) parked behind. Needless to say, once I purchased the "B", the Yamaha went on the chopping block. |

Re: Oldest photos of us having fun with British sports cars
Here's one of my dad & his B that I grew up in. He just celebrated 50 years of ownership in March. As a NAMGBR member, this car is in these Registers: Original Owner, Pull Handle, 100,000 Mile, & 200,000.
Some of you may remember that I drove it to the 2000 MG V8 Meet in Ohio when my car was getting its transplant & my daughter was 2 weeks old. Photo taken in 1965. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/14/2013 09:37AM by MGBV8. |

Re: Oldest photos of us having fun with British sports cars
Just my old 65 in about 1977. I had swapped in a 283 with a hot cam and auto to start with but changed to 3 speed Saginaw when the auto didn't want to stop! This was before I patched the holes in the sides and painted it Glacier White. Bought the top on Oct 2, 1974. I remember the day clearly as my oldest daughter was born that early morning and I went to look at the top on the way back from the hospital. The door came from a wrecked B that I got from Lee Tilliston. Just ran across him by accident a few months ago at the Nature Coast British Car club meeting. We were making a day trip to Homosassa Springs on Memorial day this year and were only a couple of miles from the house when we saw a hulk of a TR6 up on a trailer with "British" spraypainted on the side of it and an arrow pointing down a driveway. I presumed it was somebody with some parts for sale so of course we pulled down the driveway. At the end of the driveway there were about 25 really nice cars on display! We had barged in on the annual Memorial Day meeting at Van Wilders house! We were warmly accepted and I went back to the house and got my Jensen GT. That's when I ran into Lee. What a great day! Joined the club that day and have been to a few events.

With chains! I ran chains across the Rockies in December of about 1980 with my MGB. No pictures though.
