Okay guys. Tell me you're gonna try this.

At least give it a try. Go out and collect a photo or two. It's great fun!

This weekend, I'm hoping to collect a Farmer's Market photo and a World War One Memorial photo.

Latest score... Destination: Airport (with plane)

Very cool! North Carolina signs especially make me smile.

We grabbed a few too.

This one is my favorite:

Sadly, my Canon G11 camera fell to its death last night.

This is the last photo it recorded, before its lens smashed on the pavement.

Destination: Playground
Dest-Playground.jpg

(If it had lived a little longer, we'd have a "Destination: Junkyard" photo.)

So, I'm in the market for another camera. Perhaps a used Canon G12.

Still on the fence?

Luckily, you're still eligible to grab some easy "Sneak Peek" bonus points. Moss just sent this via e-mail to explain:

Quote:
Challengers!

Some of you may be thinking, "Oh crud, I totally forgot about the June 1 deadline for those bonus points."

Well guess what? Thanks to a little slip up by yours truly, you can still get those two bonus points if you send me pictures, and a little message about the shots, by July 1.

I can't remember who but a sharp eyed Challengers pointed out that we gave a deadline date of June 1 inside the Challenge guide and July 1 on the point sheet on back. So July it is.

I've been enjoying greatly the Sneak Peek shots that have rolled in. I'm going to attach a few of them here for you.

And those of you who have joined and are participating in the Moss Motoring Challenge Facebook Group… you've become my favorite thing about FB. Do join the group if you haven't already!

Happy Motoring!

Accept the Challenge. It's fun!

Curtis - I'm game to participate - no chance I'll win; just not enough time these days... but, I'll print out the categories & catch shots opportunistially as I can.

Off topic: Bummer about your camera... I recently bought a used Nikkon d5200 off of ebay. Can't say enough good about that camera -- especially in low light which is what I needed - was missing too many pics of football & school programs for my kids; pics are way better than i was able to get previously. To give you a feel for what you can get, I got a lightly used D5200 body (it only had 9 shots taken!), 18-55mm & 55-200mm lenses for $670. All I need to add is a plug in Wi-Fi module that allows you to immediately share pics through your phone.

That's great, Rob! You'll enjoy it. I certainly don't expect to win, but I do hope to score more points than last year's winner did. That seems realistic because Moss increased the available points from about 150 to about 200. The new "destinations" category are mostly things you can photograph locally. Two examples follow...

---

Gentlemen! I want to alert you to a scoring opportunity which only happens once per month, and which is coming up quickly. You can score points by posing with your car and with the Moss Motoring Challenge sign in a photo with the FULL MOON this Friday, June 13th. (You may be able to achieve this point without leaving your driveway.)

---

Tonight Lisa and I collected a two-pointer!

Looks like you're well on the way Curtis. I've got the Moss Motoring Challenge cover and list laminated and ready to go BUT the B is presently out of action undergoing a rear end transplant. Bill Gusman 4-link and Ford rear axle. Going to make a push for at least a t-shirt before the season is over.

If we'd realized how far south the moon's arc would take it, we'd have driven north instead of south to get more snow-capped peaks in the frame.

I know some of you drove to Indiana this past weekend for a little car show. If so, I bet you passed at least two dozen Moss Challenge photo ops along your way, and the car show itself was a photo op too!

Lisa and I couldn't make that road trip, but we got out for a nice Sunday afternoon drive:
http://www.britishv8.org/Photos/MossChallenge2014/June15Route.jpg

We collected another ten or twelve usable photos along our way. Here are a couple favorites.

Town: Sterling
http://www.britishv8.org/Photos/MossChallenge2014/Town-Sterling.jpg

Town: Raymer (population ~90)
http://www.britishv8.org/Photos/MossChallenge2014/Town-Raymer.jpg

(we probably can't get a point for this pic, but we wanted to take it anyhow)
http://www.britishv8.org/Photos/MossChallenge2014/NatlGrassland-Pawnee.jpg

State: Nebraska
http://www.britishv8.org/Photos/MossChallenge2014/State-Nebraska.jpg

Town: Cheyenne (we could alternatively submit this for the "Botanic Gardens" point)
http://www.britishv8.org/Photos/MossChallenge2014/Town-CheyenneWy.jpg

Town: Johnstown

Come on guys - take so Challenge pics and post them here!

There are LOTS of Moss Challenge points to collect around Colorado Springs. For example, I understand there's an easily accessible WWI memorial. The Florissant Fossil Bed National Monument (west of town) is a good spot to collect your National Monument Point. While you're in that area you can visit Victor Colorado for your V-town. If you get six other BritishV8s in a photo with your own car, you can call it a "car show" for a point. The Bumble B pub will qualify for your "British Pub" point. Grab a Teller County sign... I could go on and on!

nice drive Curtis , i like the fire/ town hall

I was part of a 9-11 car tour on the drive to French lick so was not able to get many photos. It's difficult to keep a group together when only 2 of the cars want to stop all the time for Moss points.

I'll get a few on the trip home, and we have 350+ mgbs here so that will qualify for a car show.

Gee, I'm sorry to hear that. You sure picked some lame people to caravan with. But, if you encourage Carl a bit I bet you can get him to join in the fun. He used to have a lot of competitive drive back when he was younger. You might try telling him (over and over) that he's getting shown up by a whole bunch of Miata drivers.

(I'd have inserted a bunch of goofy emoticons so you'd detect my sense of humor, if only this message board's lousy Moderator would add that feature.)

Have I mentioned that Moss has announced a "British versus Miata" sub-Challenge? Here's how they described it:

Quote:
The combined points of the top 5 Miata vs. the top 5 British Challengers will decree the victors’ bragging rights for
the year. The winning team’s Challengers each receive a commemorative trophy.

I sure would be proud to win one of those trophies on behalf of the Allied team.

I wonder how many points one would need to finish that high.

Two other Moss Challenge "destinations" you might visit in or near Colorado Springs are the Zoo ("Cheyenne Mountain Zoo") and any of several nice wineries (e.g. "The Winery at Pikes Peak").

I played designated driver last night, and took my navigator to Mile High Winery in Denver. A very nice evening!

The road trip to BritishV8 2014 really is a great opportunity to pick up Challenge points. I've purchased a replacement Canon G11 camera on eBay, and it should arrive just in time. During or getting to the meet, we plan to score Douglas County, Fremont County, Teller County, a snapshot of cars in the host hotel lot for a "car show" point, and if time permits nearby Florissant Fossil Bed National Monument. Not bad, but you guys with longer routes could score so much more.

If you're coming in through Kansas, you'll pass through or near Quinter, Utica, Yuma (town and county, in Colorado), and Zurich. If you're coming up from Texas, grab Quay and Union county signs in New Mexico plus Huerfano and Otero counties in Colorado.

These last couple weeks, we've snapped a couple more Motoring Challenge pics with a "big camera":
http://www.britishv8.org/MG/MossChallenge2014/CarShow-OskarBlues.jpg
(You can score one photo for each car show you participate in, up to ten points.)

When you get some Challenge photos, post them here!
