Carl, slightly different pose by the passenger but definitely the same photo shoot. The graphics guy used a photo from some online stock photo company.

Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
I plan to get out and earn a few more points soon, rumor has it, that one will need 200+ points to be a contender this year. I'll have a little over 100, so not in the running. Last year I took 5th place but I did a lot more driving.

Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
A beautiful day here so we went for a drive down river after dinner. We stopped at Harvey's Big Potato, a local Farm Market with about 200 acres under cultivation. The Harvey family have been farming here for about 100 years.
Known locally just as the Big Potato, their sign can be considered a Roadside Oddity. |

Carl asked: How are you going to make Watkins Glen if ya keep stoppin?! ;)
I've been wondering the same thing. Hopefully the answer is "just in time". Managed to cover a bunch of miles today. Five more points. Rock County Wisconsin state of Illinois state of Indiana state of Ohio state of Michigan Must. Sleep. Now. |

Gotta say this is way more fun to watch than me just typing, "I drove 960 miles today" when driving out to the V8 Meet.

Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
No... but I did have a great visit with Dave Craddock, which included a tour of the Preform Resources composite fabrication shop. Preform Resources now has Ford Mustang body kits and composite parts for Porsches. And Dave took me out to dinner! And then I drove a couple hours into Canada before stopping for the night.
Yesterday I drove around for little looking for a cool Ontario sign... missing several good opportunities because I was looking for something more exciting, and finally having to settle for this lame photo I took as "nsurance". Province of Ontario, Canada On the up-side, I was very excited to get this: O County - Oxford County, Ontario Had to really rush across New York, making just one brief stop: U-town - Urbana, New York Got to Watkins Glen just a couple minutes too late to pick up my Crew Pass, so I snuck in by showing a previous years Media Pass to someone who didn't know any better. Enjoyed a really nice dinner held in honor of our dearly departed friend John. After that, I didn't want to leave to go find "the gang" at the Seneca Lodge because I figured I might not be able to get back into the track. Now my credentials are legit, and I can come and go as I please. |

"Say Curtis, while you were in Michigan did you got to Hell?" Larry, if you didn't want to go to Hell, come on over to Maine and visit Purgatory, ME near Augusta. :-))

Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
The Watkins Glen vintage festival includes multiple car shows, and I suppose I could have moved my car around between them and collected a bunch of "Car Show" Motoring Challenge points. I chose to drop in briefly at this one:
"MG Car Corral at the Vintage Grand Prix of Watkins Glen" - September 6, 2014 (with Caroline & Ray Waugh who own the red MGB GT V6 at left - Bill Guzman's old "test mule" - and with long-term GT V8 owner/enthusiast Tom Rosser.) I had hoped to find a Charity Car Wash in the town of Watkins Glen somewhere... but no luck there. Back to racing! |

Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
You would have fit right in!
--- From Watkins Glen I decided to I'd drive down to Virginia to visit my parents. Here are some Challenge pics collected along the way: a "U county" (Union County, New Jersey) an "N county" (New Castle County, Delaware) state of Connecticut state of Delaware state of Maine state of Massachusetts state of New Hampshire state of New Jersey state of New York state of Pennsylvania state of Rhode Island state of Vermont (Glenn from Pennsylvania stopped and offered to take the photo. I offered him a better job.) we already had a great "Harbor" photo, but this one might suit the competition better (Rob from MD was out jogging around Baltimore's Inner Harbor, but stopped to talk cars.) and here's another roadside oddity: (wear your seat belts!) Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
The first trip I clearly remember taking in an MG was in 1971. Dad took my sister Ellen and I to Antietam in his green '64. Today, dad and I returned in my GT to tour the battlefield (too briefly) and to collect a Motoring Challenge point.
We also stopped briefly at Harpers Ferry. Been there a hundred times, and have always enjoyed it immensely. |

Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
Curtis, you have to be racking up some serious points. Bet you're a contender to win the whole thing.
On a completely off topic question, what is the secret to enabling email replies in a thread? Good luck! Scott |

Re: Let's Win Moss Motors' 2014 Club Spirit Award
You're racking up some serious miles as well Curtis.
Collected a few points this week on a visit to Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy. The Bay of Fundy has the highest vertical tides in the world......up to 50 feet. [bayoffundytourism.com] |
