Made a 'banzai' solo run 1200 plus miles for a 2-day event. Only three representatives of our forum there as far as I could tell. Moderator Curtis with his MGGT and Calvin with is TR6 and myself with the MG Tourer. Some other LBCs in attendance with V8s, but apparently not that many or folks in that area don't join forums....! This is a GREAT annual event and I highly recommend attendance! Of course I may be somewhat biased at taking a 1st place trophy in class!

I can vouch for Jim Legg being at ABFM in Portland Oregon :)

I believe he even received an award in his class. Curtis was parked right next to him. There was almost 800 cars at the meet. It took Brenda and I almost two hours just to vote all the cars and classes.

The first 3 photos were the span of the field. The last photo was a Lister that had a 454 LSX engine in it that put out 750 hp and only weighed in at 2300 pounds. Some said he was running it on the track that day, which I would have loved to see.

Our TR6 took second place in our class.

After the car show Curtis, Lisa, Jim, Brenda, myself enjoyed a catered dinner at 5:30 pm. We all had fun together representing the conversion group.

Unfortunately I didn't take to many photos myself. There was so much going on with voting, dealing with the rain, and watching some of the races. I wanted to do the Auto-X but is was raining along with not being able to do the Slalom coarse.

The Volvo in the back ground has a 289 ford in it. A very well done conversion. Was a friend of Curtis!






This photo has a story behind it. To make a long story short, our car trailer blew out our spare tire (100 degree day in CA). So we re-installed the original tire that had a bad valve stem. It would leak if the valve stem was moved outwards toward the rim. I had installed a mini compressor, 3 gallon holding tank on the dully truck for air tools which came in handy. We had found a piece of tire thread along side the road, and wedged it between the valve stem and rim to keep the air from coming out. Then we duck tape the shxt out of it to stay there. We made it the last 95 miles on that MONKEY RIGGING home. Never leave home on a road trip without a good roll of Duck tape LOL


So Tuesday went and replaced all 5 tires on the car trailer. Figured it did about 8 cross country trips on the same set of tires.

We didn't travel fast up to Portland and stayed a few days in Grants Pass OR for some R&R after a long work week before leaving up North.

Amazing how creative we become when facing adversity..good job Calvin!

hello, I go to abfm bout every year since 1988 rain or shine. Perhaps we can meet sometime. I'm from portland. The "Lister" is a beautiful build, I dig it! but.... I didnt notice if there was actually anything british on it anywhere, just saying. Anyway I would Really like to have my latest mg v8 creation out there for next year. Much to do.

This is the MG/rover engine going in an 64 MGB I bought in high School almost 30 years ago. It had 54,000 miles on it and I promptly tore it all apart. This will be my final v8 project and have learned a lot from these forums and the handful of other v8 and supercharged alky 4cyl mgb cars i built and sold off over the years. My goal is to get the weight down to 1700-1800lbs with a full tube frame welded in and a solid 400bhp. yes. 400.


The crossbolt 305ci rover engine is done. About 350+hp on alcohol at flywheel before the 50 shot of nitrous. Its built to rev. Top hat cylinder liners, Roller cam, roller rockers, 6 inch sbc carrillo rods which gives a proper rod/stroke ratio on the 300 crank, 14-1 compression, custom pop up JE pistons to match big valve fully ported 300 heads. Harcourt single plane manifold, blueprinted and flowed alky carb. elec waterpump, hi torque starter, This v8 engine weighs 305lbs!
The rest of the project will be completed with the "british" car in spirit, for example Smiths guages, not Comp, etc etc
