British V8 2018
Do you think having the V8 meet in conjunction with a local British meet is a good thing or a bad thing? Specifically, would making the Saturday "event" the attendance of a car show a good idea? Would you attend the other car show? Do you think it would detract from the British V8 gathering? I remember in Indianapolis our show was at the same time as another show and there was very little participation between the two groups. But, theirs was a multi-day, multi-event show, just like ours. All opinions are welcomed.

I like the idea, but have mixed feelings about it.
Our annual Meet is generally only 3 full days. It is over very fast. This show would take up most of one of those days. On the other hand, it would be awesome for our entire group to parade over to the show field & make a grand entrance like we did at John Twist's Summer Party in Michigan in 2004. We would completely destroy the record for the most cars in a single class! We might could do something short that morning, then show up around noon since we would be pre-registered. Then have our banquet that evening. It would make a great final day. Mike Maloney would need to insist that the Conversion Class get two rows up front & under the trees for our guaranteed appearance. :) |

Al, we did our conversion meet in conjunction with the local Blount County British car show in Townsend one year...(either 2003 or 2006) It worked out pretty good...as I recall, the BC show was in the show field next to our motel...

I, too, have very mixed emotions.
I personally prefer our stand-alone events. I don't want to lose the comaradarie that we have with these events. I don't want to lose people who may go home on Saturday because they don't want to go to the Dayton show. I don't want members of our group to look like assholes if they decide to attend the Dayton Show but choose NOT to register and park outside the show field. We can ask that our folks pre-register for the Dayton event....but how do we insure that they do? Do we include a pre-registration for the Dayton event in with the registration fees for British V8? Car shows are not for me. I would not enter though I might spent 30 min looking around.

My vote is a Stand Alone meet. Car shows are OK but I attend for the camaraderie with my friends. Our group would probably be considered "Rowdy and unfocused" by the serious car show bunch. Who gives a Crap? Maybe a Late May date?

We had a pretty good group of converted cars at Dayton, many BritishV8ers, but some owners of converted cars who have not attended a V8 meet. Also we got a LOT of interest from most everyone at the meet. There was alway a crowd around our cars. Younger people. If we want to keep interest in our hobby, exposure is important.
We in the converted class didn't seem concerned at all about winning anything, but we had a great time seeing our friends. I see it as a Win-win. Our group still collected a number of awards too. I agree with Carl that our meets always seem too short ...time flies when you are having fun. Either way is really fine with me though. Al and Mike's call. |

Similar thoughts to Carl & Rick. Especially that our meets always feel short & I too worry that we'd lose folks on Saturday which would affect the banquet & auction.
Would be better if it were the 1st day of our meet -- or even as a pre-meet day but sounds like that's not an option? That would help get exposure to new folks - that's important as traffic on this & MGE both seem to be dropping off noticeably. I also really like that our events aren't shows & there are no awards. If we do it, consider coordinating for us to join for no more than 1/2 day & no judging in our "class" -- exhibition only. |

Isn't this how Dan Masters did the Townsend meet after the Blount show? That worked out well. |

I like Dan's idea....it could serve as the warm up to the Meet and those that want to attend can. The real meet can start Sunday evening if that fits into Al's plans? It would give us Saturday night too. Just a thought.

Not sure a separate day would work. The car show is Saturday, which would me our meet would go Sunday-Wednesday. Or our meet would be Tuesday - Friday. One of the activities being planned is only offered on Fridays. If we start the meet early, will people be willing to take the extra day off work?
Personally, I think at this point it's fairly apparent that we should keep our get-together separate. Unless anybody has a strong opinion to the contrary, I'd like to abandon the idea and go back to just worrying about the V8 crowd. |
