Another idea for Townsend fall meet
Posted by: Dan B
Date: November 03, 2018 12:34PM

Jim and Steve were here in Milton WV early this week as an offshoot of the Roadmaster project work weekends. We decided to keep getting together and working on various projects.
So the idea was mentioned by Steve that perhaps the Townsend fall gathering could be held during the week instead of on the weekend, since so many of our group are now retired and others may have flexibility.
Dan has always hosted the big spring meet in the early part of the week and it worked better for traffic, etc. Maybe the Falcon guys wouldn't have the venue booked.

Any further info on the 9th annual meet? This suggestion would work for many of us, but some still have to WORK for a living. :-) The Falcon Group did us in, but how do we continue this tradition and not have to contend with them. The Talley Ho is a great place. some other suggestions please?

One weekend earlier is no biggie. Could be hot, cold, rainy, or perfect, just like our usual 1st weekend in October. ;)

It also means I can attend my HS reunion that has been scheduled on the same weekend for Townsend for a number of years now. Seems they have made the 1st weekend in Oct. permanent.

Don't really have a dog in the hunt; we're here either way, unless visiting son and family or RV'ing. But whatever the case, Talley Ho needs to be contacted soon. If the group wants, I can check with them for whatever weekend. Just let me know.

Please do Mickey, I think the reason we met that weekend was that it was the beginning of the off-season rates, so we may have to go later rather than sooner. I have no problems with weekdays.

Jim

We were discussing it with Tally Ho upon checkout. Rich Moor always books the house for the next year when we leave. That is when we found the conflict.

Actually, Jim, i think the rates go up after the 1st weekend for the Fall Colors business.

Thanks Mickey, prior to making alternate plans, we probably need to know if the Falcon Club has preempted our 1st weekend in Oct. on a yearly basis. If theirs is a 1 year thing, we can choose a alternate date for 1 year. If they have settled on Talley Ho on a continuous basis, we need to choose a date that will be available to replace the 1st week end in Oct. The people at Talley Ho would probably have that info? Meanwhile, this year is a priority and what is the will of the group? How about a week end earlier? Open to suggestions.

Per Carl's point, find out about the rates then look for a time slot that is less expensive rather than just open.

Jim

Rich was upset because they only take reservations 1 year in advance. Yet, they were allowed to preempt us. Bigger crowd, I guess.

I checked their online booking. The rates do go up for the Fall.

Jim Watson knows them well. Will have more pull. They like his Springtime in the Smokies Euro Show business.

This conversation prompted me to look on my cell phone 2019 calendar...I show that I have my usual room booked for October 3,4, and 5 this year. I usually book my room before I leave for the next year. Are you guys saying that the Falcon guys have that weekend? Guess I will have to call Talleyho and check my resevrvation status....

Yes, Mike. Rick could not book the "Moor Mansion" that weekend because it was already booked by the Falcon group. So was most of the Hotel. We moved it to one week earlier. Rick Ingram can confirm.

Checked with Talley Ho. Falcon Club has Oct. 4-5; the white house is booked the next weekend. So we probably need to stick with Sept. date for this year.

As for moving away from a weekend date, we have tossed that around, but never seemed to come to a consensus. I would imagine that we need to check with the group before making that decision. Maybe talk about it in Sept.?

The Talley Ho gave them that date more than a year in advance. They have the numbers.

Called Talley Ho and rescheduled for Sept. 27 & 28. Sent a request to Tn. Valley Falcon Club to determine if this year was a 1 time only or re occurring event in Oct. 1st week end? Will advise if/when reply received. Perhaps it was a 1 time only and we can continue business as usual.

Don't think it is one time only. Maybe not every year? A few years ago, they were there with us the same weekend. A rainy weekend.
