British V8 2009, Where you coming from? Wanna Hook Up for the Run?
Posted by: SpuriousV8

So, we are only a little over a week away from hitting the road. As much as I enjoy driving by myself in my MGB V8, I also like hooking up with others who may be traveling the same roads as I will be, on our way to Durham.

So My Travel Plans are, leaving my home in South Florida, Coral Springs (Broward Co) to be exact in the wee hours of Saturday. As of now the plans are up I-95, In North Carolina, I-40 West to Durham. This is not set in stone, as I would alter it to hook up along the way. As long as it isn't to far out of the way. But if interested, reply here. Remember, to far out of the way is different for everyone, so don't be afraid to ask.

Now this is not only for me. Anyone else looking to do the same, list your travel plans too. You never know who you might meet on the side of the road.

I don't know about any of you, but on one of these such trips so many years ago, I met a man who later would become a very important person and friend in my life. I still value his friendship to this day, and thank him every day I get behind the wheel of my MGB V8.

I would like to head on over to Durham on Saturday, June 6th & hook up with Mike Moor, maybe go to Max's Movie at VIR. The hitch is our Little League Baseball Tournament (we get a 1st round bye) will have us playing Friday night & Saturday sometime.

Traveling from East TN. Not sure if I'll go I-26 to I-40 or I-81 N to I77 S to I-40 E hopefully on Saturday afternoon.

Curtis, recheck your dates.

Curtis will be way ahead of me. I plan on leaving KC on Thursday morning heading towards Louisville via St. Louis on I 70 and I 64. I'll probalby stop for the night around Evansville and then again on Friday night around the Charleston area and finish up into the Durham area on Saturday if all goes well.

I'll be boarding the plane on Saturday the 6th at about 3:30pm; should have the double burbon on the rocks in hand by 4pm. Land at Raleigh airport at 7:30pm. Hey, just because my car isn't finished doesn't mean I can't enjoy the trip :).

Wasn't able to make a final decision about attending until last night but got my registration off by Priority Post today. Traveling via non.British conversion vehicle (Mazda) from New Brunswick Canada. The MGB is still sitting in the paint booth waiting for final prep and paint.

The general plan once clearing the US border Friday morning is to aim the car south and pull the trigger, likely via I-95S and whatever other route the GPS tells us is the best route.

Planning to arrive in the Danville area Saturday afternoon and attend the races at VIR on Sunday, then on to Durham.

Any advice out there about the best way or area of the track to see the races on Sunday?

Kay and I will be leaving Saturday afternoon taking Ohio Rt. 35 from Dayton, Ohio, down to Charleston, WV and will stay either in Charleston or just south of there on I-77 on Saturday night.. Will hook up with Scott Costanzo (leaving early Sunday from Columbus, Ohio) sometime around noon on Sunday. Anyone coming in this general direction who wants to hook up with us just post on this forum

"The Dickel Express" will leave the station early Saturday morning and drive up to Crossville Tn, and onto I40 E. It will continue onto Knoxville Tn. and then to Ashville NC. It may stop prior to arriving in Durham if the Richard Childress Vinyards (Welcome NC) are giving tours. Then on to Durham for a warm up or practice session for the rest of you coming on Sunday. There will be a "small" contingent of attendees arriving on Saturday and not going to Danville.
Since we are close to Charlotte, maybe we will visit some NASCAR shops and operations such as RCR, Hendrick's and MWR. Look fwd to seeing you'all.
SAFETY FASTER!

(For all of you who frequent both sites, this is just a copy of the post I put there this morning.)

Guess no one is heading up to Durham from Points South along my way. I will see you all in Durham Saturday late afternoon/early evening, MGBV8 Willing ! I plan on Saturday night at the Durham Hotel, up to the VIR on Sunday with the others that are going there too.

It's been a long time since my V8 has stretched it's legs so far from home. Retirement in Florida takes it tolls The car retired there not me :) , I still have to work. :(

So we have to use thier cootie full faced helmets? I hate rental equipment. Guess it is no use bringing any of my half helmets with me then. More room for other essentials. :)

Safety Faster !!!!!!!!

Leaving Florence, KY after Matthew's ball game and we'll spend the night in Milton, WV.

Mike, we will be going through Charleston some time the next day so there's a good chance we could hook up, though I don't know if you want to be escorted by a trailer rig. Let me know.

Jim

We will be leaving Lugoof, SC on Sat morning and probably going up 95 and then 40. I'll have to check out the back roads to see if any look good. We will leave about 9-10 that AM.

Steve

Who else is in transit?

Strong Kansas storms followed by rain off-and-on all the way from Missouri through West Virginia delayed me, but I've arrived safely in (Blacksburg) Virginia. Just another two or three hours tomorrow, and I can start photographing racecars at V.I.R. - Virginia's Route 8 between Stuart and Floyd is one of my all-time favorite sports-car roads, and that's on the way.

Beautiful weather today, got farther than I expected. The Midget is running fine. Stopped just on the east side of Louisville for the night and there's a yellow rubber bumper B in the parking lot from Michigan. Got to go down and see if I can meet the driver. Should make it to Durham a day earlier than I expected so will have an extra day to clean up the car from the trip before heading up to VIR. See you all soon.
