I had 2 set of Rover heads ported for me 15 years ago, before my engine man passed away 12 years ago. I have had them sitting in a closet, on the top shelf, in a house, out of the way. Well it has come time to move them for I am after fuel mileage not just power & a ported head will cost you 1 to 2 MPG. Comp. port job & yes I know you can not do much to the Buick-Rover heads but we took a damaged rover head & cut it up to see where we had enough alu. to make the ports as good as you can. The heads are 1 set of the 3 row head bolt (90-93) & 1 set of the 2 row of head bolts (4.0 & 4.6) with the big intake valve & the 1.350 exhaust valve. The man that ported these for me, did port work for over 45 years. $850. + a good set of core rebuild able heads + postage. If you need more info. send me your Ph. # & I can call you or for USA CALL ONLY you can call my cell @ 302 734 1243 Thanks Glenn

Where are you located? I'm in Canada, Vancouver Island, BC.
Looking to build a high performance 'stroker' 300 for my TR8.

Don't bother with the expense of the stroker. You will get the same thing out of a 4.6 and save thousands. Seen way too many TR8s with strokers go boom, and then the broke owners opt for a cheaper 4.6 only to end up with basically the same peak HP numbers. Instead of spending money on the stroker, spend it on a programable FI system. With good heads, you can get somewhere around 330 at the flywheel with decent drivability. Don't go chasing every last HP.

Todd is a wealth of information. I don't think he is trying to scuttle Glen's sales. Even if Noel decided to go with a 4.6, he will still need a great set of heads.

Noel this is from Glen:

I am in Dover DE. Send me a ph.# where I can call you with what we have
built in big motors. Thanks Glenn

Noel, The Rover heads that I am selling will not work on the stroker motor, will have way too high of compression.

Many of the stroker engines out there now are done by offset grinding the 4.6 crank to yield something like 297CI. All I was alluding to in my first post was there really isn't much sense in trying to chase every HP by going from 4.6 to 4.9. Worked heads with larger valves are essential for any of the Rover engines over 4.0. The heads listed in this thread sound like a pretty darn good deal to me. I've seen several sets of heads with larger valves and nice port work end up costing $2500 by the time all was said and done.

Also I think if you buy a completely assembled set of TA heads they come out to about $2500 unported.
