Ford "8.8" Narrowed Posi-Rear End w/ 3.07:1 Gears
Low mileage Ford 8.8 posi-rear with 3.07 gears narrowed to standard MGB width (disc wheel) = 52" from hub to hub mounting face (ran 205-50ZR 15's on panasports w/ -22MM offset with no interference on lowered 77B). Rebuilt to the highest standards, original ring and pinion carefully inspected for wear and checked for proper tolerances. New Moser hi-strength axles and hubs (drilled for MGB 4-bolt pattern), bearings and seals. New Wilwood four pot disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors. Traveled approximately 7,500 summer miles since rebuild / installation. I have ~ $2100.00 invested, asking $1500.00 or next best offer. Located in Syracuse, NY and would prefer local pick-up. If buyer wishes to arrange FOB truck freight at my home address, I will strap to standard size pallet............figure ~200 lbs. (W) 315 456-1318, (H) 315 635-8963

Re: Ford "8.8" Narrowed Posi-Rear End w/ 3.07:1 Gears
I'm interested in this axle as a possible upgrade for my own car. (My 8.8 has drum brakes...)
Can you please elaborate on a few things? a) Did you find that the Wilwood brakes required a bigger master cylinder? b) Do you have a parking brake set-up on the axle? c) Original Traction-Lok? d) Does the axle already have provision for a Panhard rod? e) When you say "no interference" and that you've been running -22 wheels and 205/50 tires, I've got to wonder about that 52" hub-to-hub measurement. Can you please double-check that measurement, because I think it's only possible with modified fender flanges at the least. (I'm trying to fit -22 Panasports and 205/50 tires at the moment. I'd pay more for the axle if it's a little narrower.) |
Re: Ford "8.8" Narrowed Posi-Rear End w/ 3.07:1 Gears
Curtis...............
a) no, but I did install a proportioning valve b) it has internal parking brake mechanism c) oem ford posi-traction d) no e) i will double check over the weekend. what i can tell is that i brought the fabricator my orignal 77 mgb rear end (w/disc wheels) with instructions to duplicate width. i should point out that i have doug jackson's complete rear suspension kit which includes panhard rod system, so lateral movement is at a minimum. Al,
FWIW, Summit sells a good mandrel bent X-pipe system in 2-1/4, 2-1/2 or 3" diameter. (2-1/4 shown below) [store.summitracing.com] Graham |
