Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
i'm building a front engine dragster that will be powered by 2 buick 350's. the rail was built in the 70's so they are on the narrow side if your using buicks. the standard oil pump cover hits the chassis. i've figured it out that i need the rover 3.5 or 3.9 cover which turns in and away from the chassis. i need 2 of them. does anybody have any for sale in the usa?
thanks john |

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
Are you talking about the valve body that the oil filter spins onto? I think they're still available brand new, aren't they? Have you tried D&D? If they don't have actual Rover parts, they have a swiveling part that's pretty nifty. I would be reluctant to buy any of these parts second hand. If you do, be certain that the wear surface is unscuffed.

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
curtis,
that's the part. brand new ones are around $350 depending on who you buy from. their nuts! i emailed d&d twice and left a message. they have not contacted me either way. not worried about used parts, being a machinist, i can fix it. racing season is coming quick and this part is holding me up. john |

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
$350? You're right - that is nuts! D&D will NOT respond to e-mails and I haven't had good luck with them returning calls either, but they are helpful if you get them on the phone. Woody at The Wedge Shop will be more responsive, and he may have parts or at least good suggestions... thewedgeshop.com

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
Try calling D&D early. I called 9am cst this morning and Mark picked up right away. He tells me the shop is mentioned in Hot Rod Mag this month and the phone is ringing off the hook. They need a secretary................

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
Would any of these styles help you out? The Buick V6 metric covers that came on the Cadillac 4.1L had a swivel base that could spin the filter in any direction.

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
todd,
the first pic with the caddy swivel would work with the v6 we are starting with. i put in a 350 in it tonite and i definately need to turn in away from the chassis. and if that doesnt work i will have to make a dummy cover and not use an oil filter. but i still would like to try the rover set up. i can't believe that there are none out there. john |
Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
regarding d&d. i did get an email back after the third sent. says call him. my work hours won't work for that.
i went to their website. no pictures, no prices. how do you know what it is? not a mind reader or have x-ray vision. not good for sales thats for sure. |
Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
made a dummy cover for the oil pump plate. need to get a tap to finish it and try it to see if
it will work. still looking for the 3.5 cover. can't believe there are no used ones out there. |

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
Have you thought about Rover 3.9 liter covers. They are the same as the 3.5 except they have a taller snail type water pump and the crank pulley timing marker is straight up. It has the same oil pump cover and gears. They made a lot more 3.9 covers than 3.5.

Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
mike,
if the cover is the same as a 215, it won't fit the 350. i have a nos and a used 215 cover. i will never use these. i just need the oil pump cover. john |
Re: Need a 3.5 oil pump cover
i emailed D&D again looking for oil cover info and prices. i guess they don't want my business. take them off my christmas list.
harvey from v8forum.co.uk came up with 2 of them. all set now to move on to my next bump in the road.lol |
