On Ebay: 320917214004

Original Builder's description and the Link to it: [www.britishv8.org]
Rick Vandenberg's '72 TR6 with Chevy 350 and 700R4 transmission
as published in British V8 Newsletter, Volume XV Issue 3, December 2007

Induction: Air Gap intake manifold, and Edelbrock Performer 750 carburetor.

Exhaust: home-made headers into a single 3.5" pipe to behind the axle, into dual stainless mufflers.

Electrical: GM HEI ignition, Delco-Remy alternator, Painless wiring harness.

Cooling: V8 conversion radiator for a Jeep Wrangler, Corvette water pump, 180 degree thermostat. It'll run 185-190 all day.

Transmission: 700R4 4-speed automatic with overdrive. B&M 2400 stall converter. 23 5/8" long driveshaft from A1 Driveshaft.

The entire firewall and footboxes have been fabricated from 1/8" stainless steel, ceramic coated with "Lizard Skin". All suspension mounts have been fabricated from 1/4" steel. A fourteen gallon fuel cell has been installed.

Performance: 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. Quarter mile in 10.4 seconds. (Estimated top speed is 194mph at 5800rpm.)

Completed: September 2006. It was about a 4 year, 3 month job. So far, it's been driven about 1100 miles, as of Colorado Conclave 2007 (in September).

Comments: the car is surprisingly well-balanced in cornering. I drive it to work daily and it's very reliable. I'm preparing to spend the winter giving it proper body and paint work. Future plans include a GM 671 supercharger, which will bump it up to nearly 900hp. My wife says: "Not until I get my new living room furniture and drapes!" Rats!!!

Now my Description:

I purchased this car from Rick last year and have since invested over 4K more in it.

It now has the following new parts:

New Side pipes hooked directly to the headers

New 700R4 transmission, built with shift kit, heavy clutches and 2800 stall converter

New convertible top

Roll up side windows with new weather strip

New Edelbrock 850 with fuel pressure guage

New vacuum booster can with gauge

New TR6 front race springs

New front gas shocks

Mazda Miata fully adjustable bucket seats in good condition

I ditched the ugly hard top but still have the roll bar which is included as well as a new set of front tires (does not need them yet but they go with it).

I really love this car but with Arthritis setting in my knees it is making it increasingly difficult to get in and out. ( I'm 6'2" and 220 lbs)

There is no rust in or under this car and no patch panels.

Disclaimer:

This car is being sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied, please verify all information through your own visual inspection.

This car is fun and very fast, it looks so intimidating most cars won't dare to be embarrassed by it.

There's some discussion of this in the Triumph forum... but for the record: the auction is over now and the car didn't meet reserve price, so I guess the car will stay here in the Denver Colorado area for at least a little longer. The highest bid was 11,001 U.S.D., and the buy-it-now price had been set at 12,500 U.S.D.

I thought I would jump in and give an update to my car. I have purchased it back from the dealership in New York that has owned it for many years. I have rebuilt the chassis, and provided many updates. the car was not started for the last 5 years. with extreme care I have it running great again. My wife wants me to sell it, my son wants me to give it to him! For now it is nice to see it in my garage again. I am not sure what to do with it.

For many years I wanted this car, but a house move prevented me from buying it when Rick had to sell in 2012.

I regret that Karl ditched the hard top, I liked that hardtop, I also liked the mufflers and the bumpers he threw away, although he did at least put the trans cooler in a more effective place.

Now, UK regulations around highly modified cars would make it hard to import, and there are too many speed cameras, also we have 'moved on' in our lives, meaning got softer. Even so, if it were right-hand steer I would be sorely tempted, it's a great car.

Was delighted to learn a few months ago that Rick had rescued it. I guess many wives wish their husbands would get rid of 'that car' and take up something sensible, like knitting.

The “new description “ has been reversed except for the transmission. Everything else affected performance and has been replaced. Lot’s of work!

Update. I have rebuilt everything except the rear axle. I will do that this winter with taller gears. I will be posting pics from this week's Conclave in the Triumph forum. This car is staying in the family. It is ready for paint. We are now leaning toward flat black. It looks great in the flat black primer, and everyone that sees it is telling me to leave it, but it will have to be done in a top coat. The new Hoosier Pro Street tires are on, and a major improvement! I highly recommend these for big tire applications. I also did the H4 headlight conversion. It is so nice to have modern lighting for the evening rides in the Colorado mountains.

Keeping it.... hooray!!

Paint... I always think of matt black as being used to conceal dodgy bodywork. Seems a shame when yours is anything but dodgy.

Anyway, hope it now gives you the pleasure you looked forward to all those years ago. We may grow older, but in our hearts we do not change.
