Buick 215 Race Heads (GM experimental) and 2x4 barrel intake for sale
I'm considering a change in plans and am entertaining selling my GM 215
race heads and GM 215 2x4 barrel intake manifold. The heads are the ones that GM developed for Mickey Thompson's 1962 Indy Car effort (qualified 8th with Dan Gurney driving) and Lance Reventlow who used them in his mid-engine Scarab road race car. The heads have ports that are similar in size to the Buick 300 but the combustion chambers are the smaller 215 size. The heads have been converted to stud mount roller rockers (Crane Gold Race for SBC, not included) and the conversion bars and studs will come with the heads, along with the valves. Intake will come with dual 400 CFM Carter AFB carbs. I'll have to see if I can find the linkage. Some pictures are shown here: [www.bacomatic.org] Both the heads and an intake manifold have been polished externally. I had the heads ported and a checked over. Previous owner claimed the 2x4 barrel intake would fit under the hood of an MGB with small air cleaners. Parts are located near St. Louis and I travel on a semi-regular basis to Cincinnati (via Louisville or Indy). The heads and intake are quite rare but I have no idea what these are worth so I'm entertaining offers. Thanks, Dan Jones P.S. Some info on the heads and Mickey's Indy Car engine from back in the day are here: [www.bacomatic.org] [www.bacomatic.org] [www.bacomatic.org] [www.bacomatic.org] [www.bacomatic.org] [www.bacomatic.org] [www.bacomatic.org] |

A friend of mine sold a dual quad intake like that with the carbs about 5 years ago for $2k. The buyer didn't hesitate at that price. I think it went into a BMW Isetta with a slight engine upgrade.

Re: Buick 215 Race Heads (GM experimental) and 2x4 barrel intake for sale
Hello Dan; I have a fellow car enthusiast with a recently acquired "rare" Devin race car that has a Mickey Thompson race prepared motor. I informed him of your posting & he (Drew) is interested. Would be very fitting to see the Mickey Thompson parts go to a "Mickey Thompson" motor. Dan can you please send me a PM & I can give you Drew's contact information. As always...My Best Regards!!!.....Mark

Are there casting numbers on these? I don't see any in the pics you've got posted. |

Yes, the casting numbers are on the bottom of the center intake runners. Casting number is 9128531. There's also a B cast into the rocker arm area and HKL is hand-stamped on both heads which I presume are the intials of the preson or compan who ported the heads. I checked a Buick 300 head I have handy and it says CFD 1358219 and 10PM in the same location (bottom side of center intake ports). Dan Jones |
Re: Buick 215 Race Heads (GM experimental) and 2x4 barrel intake for sale
Would you have any idea what year that 300 head is from and if it's a 2v or 4v engine? That's a casting number I didn't have previously.

I checked a Buick 300 head I have handy and it says CFD 1358219 and
10PM in the same location (bottom side of center intake ports). Are you certain about the origin for this? The TeamBuick website lists that as being for the 1961-63 215ci. [www.teambuick.com] |

I've had about 10 pairs, from engines with 2V and 4V aluminum intakes. No difference as far as I could tell between the aluminum 300 heads. > Are you certain about the origin for this? The TeamBuick website lists > that as being for the 1961-63 215ci. Yes I'm certain. I'm the origin for this and just checked them again. Dan Jones |

Thanks for taking the time to double check that, Dan.
Any luck selling the racing heads? |
