FS: Narrowed Ford 8.8" Disc Brake Rear, 3.73 gears Limited Slip
FS: Narrowed Ford 8.8 rear axle, I believe it is approx. 51" wms to wms. I had it narrowed by Moser Engineering and the axle shafts cut and resplined. This is the heavy duty rear axle from the Ford Explorer with a 5 lug on 4.5" bolt circle pattern with disc brakes, limited slip differential, 3.73 gears, large axle tubes, AND 31 spline axle shafts. This axle will take lots of power! Great for a high output V8 conversion in a small car. I have a good used set of calipers and rotors to go with it. I am wanting $400 for it and must be picked up in Noblesville, IN. I can be reached at 317-750-0491, or via this forum's Private Message system. Thanks for your interest.

Additionally, it has new axle bearings and seals installed IIRC.

Re: FS: Narrowed Ford 8.8" Disc Brake Rear, 3.73 gears Limited Slip
Tom,
Any chance the 8.8 Ford rear axle uses the same size Ford limited slip as the older 8.0 Ford rear axle ? I'm now using a limited slip from an earlier Ford 8 inch rear axle - with the 3.73 gears - and want to build up a second 8 inch Ford limited slip with a 4.10 ring and pinion. Your limited slip might work for me, after changing the ring and pinion size, if the Ford limited slip is the same from both the Ford 8.8 and 8.0. Maybe some other members of the British V8 Forum, too, have an opinion on this question. keep them on the track. phillip g |

Sorry, I know for a fact that they are all different carriers in the 8", 8.8, and 9" rear axles. You will need to find a limited slip from a 8" rear which is not real easy to come by. Good luck and thanks for the interest. Tom

Re: FS: Narrowed Ford 8.8" Disc Brake Rear, 3.73 gears Limited Slip
Ok, so I dug it out of the major pile of parts I had packed in the corner and measured the length from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface (without the rotors on the hubs) and it measures 48". Therefore this would be better for a narrow car like the TR4 and a TR6 if you were to run a solid rear axle. Additionally if you want to run wide tires and mini-tub out the rear of an MGB it could be used as well.
