1977 MGB project car with Mantell Kit - NO LONGER AVAILABLE
Hello fellow MG lovers, the time has come to sell my heart and soul project to a good home. You can read all about it under the MG Forum on this site- Newbie takes a swing at Mantell kit. It's been a several year labor of love and I have almost 10K invested, motor fires right up, trans shifts the way it should, and there is probably 90 percent of the parts needed to finish. You need to get a drive shaft cut and set up the clutch to the pedal. I have the original drive shaft and a overdrive driveshaft for the 1800 motor. The tires are in good shape the wire wheel conversion looks good. The under carriage is like new- no rust anywhere, painted and done right with no short cuts. The body is in really good shape, no rust, I painted it in my booth, it's decent, you decide to wheel it or repaint. I have probably enough matching paint to shoot it again, there is at least 4 coats of paint on it after the entire body was taken down to metal. The wiring is about 80 percent, done by an ASE professional mechanic, awaiting the installation of lights and parts to finish. Most of the interior is needed, The dash has been redone and looks really great, no carpet, only seat frames with old cushions and covers, I have a custom MG steering wheel, have tons of parts including original engine that dropped an oil ring, original tranny, a top, a tonneau, tons of other stuff. I'm sure I could get more than my asking price if I part it out but that would break my heart so I'll try to sell complete first.
First $5000. gets it. I have that much in the Mantell kit, the motor, transmission and aluminum heads. But there is tons more if you read the posting on the forum you will know what you are getting. I believe I could part it out for almost 7K but again, I really do not want to do that. Someone is going to get a really good deal. Hood and Trunk (bonnet and boot) :) are not pictured but in nice rust free shape. South East Michigan outside of Flint, it's sitting in a storage locker. I have the title on this 55,000 mile car. Dang, Marty! It's like watching a dvd until the climax of the movie and it quits working. Wish things had worked out better for you. You've got a great attitude so we'll see you again, in the mean time, good luck!

Re: 1977 MGB project car with Mantell kit For Sale- 5K
Yes, believe me Tim, I didn't want it to work out this way. I'm pretty good at finishing my projects but losing a job can be a life changer. Hopefully someone else can complete the movie. ;) I'll give it another week or 2 then consider selling it off piece by piece. For me, that will be ugly but in the end it will bring more money so, it is what it is.

Marty, can you tell a little more on the engine built and rust repair (if any)?
Thanks, Jacques |

Re: 1977 MGB project car with Mantell kit For Sale- 5K
I put the motor on the stand and flipped it over, pulled the pan and it looked very clean inside. I installed a new Melling oil pump and screen, put on a new pan gasket and closed it up. My blog on the car on this site goes way into detail on the motor, the aluminum heads, the valve train, the intake, carb, etc. It will start right up.
The rust repair- new full floor pans from Moss, welded on both sides. There was a small hole in the trunk, I welded in a steel piece in the trunk and fiber glassed it smooth. I can't find it when I look to find the repair. Installed a new gas tank and pump. I had the car (minus engine) on a rotisserie and spent an entire winter taking the undercarriage down to bare metal, welding in the floor pans, repairing the trunk, priming, painting and undercoating. I installed the new front coil springs (lowered 1 inch) and put on the 32 way adjustable shocks, same with the rear, lowered an inch with the new adjustable shocks. The undercarriage looks new. There was no body rust when I bought it, the entire body has been taken down to bare metal, primed and painted. There are no frame issues. I'll keep it up for sale for another week or two then the plan will be to dismantle and sell for parts. Thanks for the question. Marty |

Marty
I'm sorry that you have to abandon your project when you're soooo.. close. I hate to ask but if the whole enchilada doesn't sell would mind sending me a parts/price list? I'm doing custom body mods to my B and am interested in the oily bits. I feel like a freakin' vulture but I just don't need it all. Thanks Dan |

Marty,
Your pics are quite small so it's hard to see any detail. Do you have large pics? Regards, Gary |

We don't delete classified ads, we just mark them "SOLD" (or "NO LONGER AVAILABLE").
