Buick 215 aluminum V8 engine block (w/ main caps) - FREE
Posted by: Moderator

I need to get this spare engine block out of my garage.

It's FREE if you pick it up here in Longmont Colorado...

or I can pack it up and ship it to you if you pay me enough to make that worth my while.

I've used it or trial installations. I'm sure it could be shined up and it'd make a very nice coffee table. (I could also part with a set of used Rover pistons and rods if you favor the coffee table design that utilizes those.) I presume though could be bored-out and rebuilt, though the bores are a little rusty and I've never measured them. No guarantees.

Hi Curtis,
Indeed , a coffee table has been an idea for me for a long time. How much for shipping the bloc to Virginia ?
Is 100 $ enough ?
Maybe later looking for a rebore if my Rover V5 dies.
Let me know.

Looks like $100 ought to do it. That'll cover FedEx Ground.

I got the block out today for a closer look. The bores look better than I thought. There's very little ridge and less surface rust than I remembered. On the down side, one of the water pump bolts had wrung off and will have to be extracted somehow.

I'll start preparing it for shipment! Werner, if you're still interested, the easiest way to pay me is via the Paypal "donate" button here: [www.britishv8.org]

Curtis,
Do you still have the pistons and con rods ?
I am interested. How much ? Too bad I didn't know you had them.
Could have gone in one shipment.

Werner

Hi Werner! Sorry for being slow to reply.

The answer is I don't have a set of pistons/rods for a 3.5L build, but I do have a set for a 4.0L build if that'd work. The 4.0 rods are longer - 6.11" vs 5.66" - for use with shorter pistons. And the pistons are bigger diameter, of course. Might work nice for a table project though. I was saving these rods, but I'd let them go for $100 including shipping anywhere in the lower 48.

(Sorry about the filth... Casting number on the rod in foreground reads "HRC2383 SDF54".)

Save a photo of one of those rods and pistons Curtis.

Look at the distance between the edge of the piston pin and the lower ring land. Easily enough space there to accommodate a significant stroke increase. I would suggest measuring and recording that distance. I think maybe we could use a sticky thread in Engines with crank and rod journal sizes, stroke distance, and rod lengths. Stock distances between wrist pin and ring package would also be extremely helpful in finding good Block/crank/rod/piston combinations, as well as compression heights. Buick, Rover, and Buick V6's plus the odd piston and rod that might work. What do you think? (Sorry to hijack the thread Werner)

Jim
