Wanted TR6 with v8 engine
Looking for a turn key car with (preferred) ford 302. Air would definitely be nice. Auto or manual doesn't matter.
Doesn't have to be show car but very nice driver. Can travel from Alabama for the right car. Thanks, Gary |

Re: Wanted TR6 with v8 engine
Thanks Bob,
I had looked at this car about 9 months ago. It wasn't running then and way too much more work needed doing than I wanted. Gary |

Re: Wanted TR6 with v8 engine
Thanks tr8, Paul.
Rob ( rficalora) is going to try and look at the one in Austin this weekend for me. I talked with the owner (Kyle) Thursday. He purchased it from a dealer and got the scrap book that shows stages of the build. He is not a gear head/car person so he only knows what was told to him. He said that he would get me some more pictures on Saturday. Kyle said both front fenders and hood are fiberglass. Gary |

Re: Wanted TR6 with v8 engine
I looked at this one (https://austin.craigslist.org/cto/d/austin-73-triumph-tr6-v8/6877552105.html) earlier today for Gary. It is a nice looking car, but it is not an $18k car IMO as it has several needs. Seller had things piled around and behind it and didn't offer to move it out of his garage so I looked at where it was. I sent Gary pics but summarizing...
Drivetrain - steering shaft moves side to side where it goes through the firewall (I'm not familiar with the TR6 steering column, Gary speculated a worn bushing there, not sure), headers (uncoated) come extremely close to (if not touching, wasnt able to get a good look) upper control arm inboard pivot points - I'd be concerned about the bushings getting cooked. On the plus side, the motor started easily from cold - but wouldn't stay running (seller says vacuum leak that he is taking to shop to have fixed I'd brought some carb cleaner with me to see if it was an easy fix but forgot it at the hotel so couldn't check that). Wasn't able to drive it so only heard it running at about 1200-1500 RPM. Sounded fine. Wasn't able to check transmission, clutch, etc. Picture book showed builders modification to the bell housing, I didn't like that. Looks to only leave a couple of bolts remaining to affix to block (see pic). Diff is upgraded - TR6 unit replaced with one from a Corvette with fabricated adapters to TR6 hubs. Don't know the diff or trans gear ratios. Electrical - was a rats nest of wires with a bunch of splices. Build book had a pics showing very neatly routed and bundled wires so someone butchered it presumably trying to do something. Should be completely rewired IMO. Seller said all gauges worked, but fuel gauge didn't move from below E resting point and wiper switch is missing knob and isn't mounted in the dash so it is suspect. Tires - good tread but rubber didn't feel soft and we didn't find date codes on them. I'd assume they should be replaced. Car has clearly set for quite a while - lots of cobwebs from underside of chassis to the ground). Cosmetic - presents very good from 10-12' but body panel fitment issues (more than alignment, correcting looked like it'd take some metal work which would mean getting into paint if the buyer can't live with it the way it is) and some minor cracking where rear quarters to rear decking had beading removed or gap filled. Also, color looked slightly off between the fiberglass fenders/hood vs the rest of the car. Carpet (tan) stained & dirty, top needs replacing, radio console had been cut to accommodate shifter that sits off center and forward interfering with it. Would need a console fabricated to address that. Seats and door cards were in very good condition. |
