Re: 1968 MGB with rare Ashley hardtop - Right Hand Drive
I love the Ashley top!
It's interesting to me that this is presented as a 1968 car. I would call it a 1967 (if not earlier). I'm confident it was assembled before 1968. Someone who's looking for an earlier car - with steel dashboard - might possibly skip over this little jewel. I believe most American MG enthusiasts expect a '68 to have all the Safety Act features: an "Abingdon pillow" padded dashboard, rocker switches, headrests, side marker lights, etc. Randy, if it's convenient for you to post a snapshot of that side mirror, I'd really appreciate it. I don't recall seeing one that style. I know the factory didn't install side mirrors in the early years, but at some point started... |

One more thing: per the posted rules of our Classified section, we need you to tell us where the car is located. (A town name and state is adequate.)

Quote:It's possible that it might be a '68 - don't think US safety standards applied to RHD vehicles....the steel dash carried on in UK spec vehicles for another few years. |

Re: 1968 MGB with rare Ashley hardtop - Right Hand Drive
As Graham was saying, many of our USA DOT mandated changes were not used in the rest of the world market, such as the pillow dash.
In the UK, the steel dash remained thru 1974. After that it had a covering. |
Re: 1968 MGB with rare Ashley hardtop - Right Hand Drive
The car is actually registered as a 1967 but looks like it was first registered in 1968 according to the original British registration.
Could have been built in 1967 but first registered in 1968. The car is located in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, T8A 6E7. Randy |
