I am selling a complete MGA 1600 engine and the 4 speed trans that goes along with it. The engine has a blown head gasket and I have not inspected the pistons, but the valves, rockers, and pushrods are all in good shape. The transmission goes shifts into all 4 gears and reverse. Please make an offer

John

Note: the best way to contact John is probably to use the message board's built-in private message system. If you like, you can request his phone number or e-mail address and continue a dialogue by one of those modes.

Does anyone know of any other places to list an ad like this where people who want it would see it? Since this is mostly a modified forum, there isnt as much interest in a stock motor.

Try the MG Experience site
[www.mgexperience.net]
or MG Cars Enthusiasts Club
[www.mgcars.org.uk]
....these sites (along with British V8) represent the bulk of MG chat line activity.
......then of course there's ebay, Craigslist, Kijiji, Hemmings......

You might also try britishcarforum.com.

But frankly, based on my experience, you'll probably have better luck on your local craigslist depending, of course, on your location.

come on, someone has to know how much its worth? Also, I have since discovered the head was not blown, its still in good shape. and the rear axle is also for sale. So, a full MGA 1600 drivetrain in working condition. Anyone know what its worth?

John-

Based on my own experience, a replacement MGB 1800 engine & trans is in more in demand than a MGA 1600 drivetrain which is needed only by a fellow who requires strict originality in his MGA.

Just to get the ball rolling, a 1600 engine with a suspect head gasket is worth $200-$275, the trans about
$100-225, and the banjo rear about $50.00 (yup, no kidding).

There is currently a Craigslist (baltimore) listing selling an MGA 1600 engine and trans for $375.00.

I'm presently looking for a scrap MGA trans with its case intact for an on-going project.

Hope the above was helpful to you.

regards, lee
