Pretty cool!! What is with that air cleaner it completely engulfs the carb?

Cheers

Wow! I did not think any of those air cleaners still existed! That is actually the only one I have ever seen.

Original equipment on the 215 powered Olds F-85, many of us have seen the Olds intake with the odd looking ring cast into the top of it around the carb. This is the air filter that mated with that ring, totally enclosing the carb. In fact for a blow-through forced induction system that air cleaner would be quite useful. As you can see the linkages and hoses all went through recesses in the intake's mating ring. I do not recall if both the 2 and 4 bbl intakes were set up this way. I think I had one of the 2 bbl ones.

This photo definitely needs to be accessible in the archives.

Or...how about in a Datsun 510 ? A friend from Chaffey College, "Eric Rustler" are you out there ?, had a warmed-over 215 Olds with custom headers and a 4 speed. He said it ran like a scalded rabbit ! LJC's... cool. roverman.

I am happy to say that we ( Kathy & I ) are the proud ( grinning from ear to ear ) owners of this Datsun. Today 3-1-2013 I got an email showing these pictures. We didn't know our project graced these pages. Its a 1968 Datsun SPL-311. The pictures are great, The intent is to keep our car looking stock, with visual clues to the changes. The air cleaner is "odd". It hides a 2 barrel carb. It reminded me of the first time I saw a fuelie vette. " what is that box and where is the carb?,1989 Mustang 5 speed ( overdrive is great!) and narrowed Chev S-10 rear. Currently working to finish all the little things. Speedo and tach (TomTom last year) gauges, e-brake,miata seats. We would love to talk about it, Carl
