Hi there,
A few years ago I read in a Forum where this conversion was very well done.
Have any of you people ever seen or come across this very unusual conversion??
All the best.Noel

I know that conversion has been done before, but I haven't yet seen one in person.

I think i saw a show about the stunts of one of the new james bond movies when they were racing the newer astons on ice, and i believe those were chevy v8s.

Hi there,
Why would I joke about a practical and fairly straight forward transplant.
With the right adaptors for the Torque flite to a Chevy motor which is
smaller than an A/M V8 by a mile. Since I posted the subject I had a reminder
that the car was for sale in Victoria somewhere. Just for the record,
the roller Hydraulic cams in the last of the Gen 1 SBC are far less troublesome
than any OHC mechanicals and require NO maintenance for many years at a
time. More than the other pre-historic fantasies which even to this day are an
expensive short lived trouble bred money maker for the car manufacturers...
All the best to the true believers in conversions that challenge all possibilities.
Merry Xmas to All...Noel....

Hey Jelli, Perhaps no more of a joke than putting a serious lump 302 Ford in a TVR ? Seasons Gretings, roverman.

Okay... but for the record, the DB6 came with a very nice inline six. Aston Martin's own V8 engine entered production about four years after the DB6 was introduced, and was used in a different chassis.

A long time ago, I had a chance to buy a DB6 - one I could actually afford! - because its owner had wiped out and driven into a lake. The engine ingested water and suffered a horrible death. Whoever pulled it out of the lake didn't dry things out well, so there were all sorts of non-mechanical issues too. I made the mistake of telling the seller I'd put an aluminum V8 in it, and he told me he wouldn't sell it to anyone who'd do that. Now, even poor condition DB-series Aston's are quite expensive. They're typically out of the price range of anyone who would hot-rod them or set them up as racecars.

I took detailed photos of a DB4GT racecar last summer. Hopefully I'll find time in the next month or two to add it to the BritishRaceCar.com gallery. What a neat car!

Here is a link of a Aston Martin DB6 with a Chevy V8. I don't know if it has been finished yet.

Noel,

the SBC weighs in like a boat anchor compared to any std AM engine offered in that chassis. AMs were always praised for their handling balance. Having decent handling could be considered "practical" as well. With that lump, it may understeer a wee bit.

Personally, I feel it's a poor choice. Further, I've never understood why anybody would want a "sports" or "GT" car with a slushbox. That seems like a waste. Then again, it is all about having fun with your own car. I always remind myself about that while I scratch my head, thinking WTF.

Art, I think the combination you're using for a basis for comparison is what's called track-proven. That's a result of handling and power to weight ratio. As a result, Griffiths have a reputation as giant killers. All you get with an automatic SBC powered AM DB6 is a giant. Your analogy isn't a great one.

Ha Bernard :)

My wedding car was a Silver DB6 BTW. This is a terrible think to do to a DB6. I like V8 swaps as much as the next man, but an old all iron SBC is way wrong (and Auto - well that goes without say, that IS just wrong). Best would be to find an AM DBSV8 lump and drop that in. As the DBS was developed from the 6 chassis but with the new Tadek Marek (wrong spelling but close) V8 and the new body. At the very least give it an all alloy LS SBC with a T56 on the back. At least it woul be close in weight and not just be a boulavard truck.

Roverman - TVR Griffiths ALL had 289's in when they left the factory (and many now have 302's - slightly tweeked 289 nothing more), so this is NOT a mod at all.

BTW - the guy does not seem to have posted any updates on this since June 2009!
