Re: Jowett Javelin with 318 Chrysler V8
Hi David,
I had 3 cars in mind, javelin, volvo pv 544 and standard vanguard ( round back ). the javelin came along first thats about the only reason, although i had always liked them from a kid . the equivalent to the holden would be the vauxhall carlton/ senator or the omega... they do 24v versions in all models and they are very lively, i think they are around 220 h.p.... its probably the way to go as youll get trans and axle, wiring loom, seats etc etc... certainly a lot cheaper than sourcing things separately. what about the v8 holdens are they a lot more money?... coincidentally the 318 in the javelin came out of an australian truck, it was in a zodiac when i bought it, i took the engine and trans out and sold the rest on ebay... too cheaply as it had a jag rear and decent wheels... i have done everything on the javelin myself... narrowed the axle, made the chassis, all the upholstery, wiring loom from scratch, sprayed it myself.... it wouldn't be the same if i had to farm out the work ... heres a couple more photos including the zodiac! |

Good Work Pat. Regarding Mopar power, I think the future is bright for Gen 3 hemi swaps. Not too heavy and lots of potential.Cheers, roverman.

Re: Jowett Javelin with 318 Chrysler V8
Not sure if the Volvo axle would take the extra power, also those engines are pretty rare in the UK!!... would be fun though. I did think about the Daimler 4.5 hemi V8 but they are like gold dust.

Re: Jowett Javelin with 318 Chrysler V8
Hi Pat,
Don't feel too bad, we have still got the Zephyr over the workshop. It is fairing a lot better than the Transit did that i used to take it home. The Javelin looks well, i bet you are pleased to have got it on the road and be out and about enjoying it. Is Mrs Pat still running her Pinto powered Anglia van ? Hope you don't mind i pinched a couple of your pics to post up on Rods'n'Sods which is where i spend a lot of my time. I tripped over this forum by chance when i was surfing. Cheers. Russ. |

Re: Jowett Javelin with 318 Chrysler V8
Hi Pat,
To be honest not much has happened with the Zephyr realy, both front wings came off to weld up the bottom's of A post's (common fault bit of a water trap) but there was a fair amount of filler in the front wings so have been keeping an eye out for some better one's. Bought a chevy 350/th350 do go in it then used it for another project instead, i have since picked up a Mopar needing a rebuild so that is the plan at the moment. Trouble is you know how it is when you have got a few cars about, things go wrong and you get sidetracked. Need to be doing a bit of engine work on my Olds next plus MOT and TAX are due soon, the Rod will need MOT and TAX soon as well plus could do with changing the diff for a higher ratio one. A couple of pics of the Olds. A couple of pics of the Model Y. If i am in the neighbourhood i will take you up on the offer of a cuppa. Are you going to the Swapmeet at Essex Arena (Thurrock) on Sunday March 6th, or Wheels Day at Rushmore Arena (aldershot) on Good Friday ? Catch you again soon. Russ. |

Re: Jowett Javelin with 318 Chrysler V8
I'm trying to contact Pat Cargan about his V8 Jowett Javelin, as I want to write an article about it in our local Jowett newsletter here in Australia. I have tried to PM Pat but got no response; can anyone help me?
