Coventry-built Electric 1968 Jaguar E-Type
I saw this in the news today, and I'm simply stunned by it.
Jaguar made a drop-in electric motor setup that will fit into any xk-engined car: [www.topgear.com] Custom LED display in place of the original analog gauges is one of the few changes from original. There's some great YouTube videos too. Makes my MGB project seem way out of date... |

Yeah, we'll all be driving around in classics that sound like an invalid carriage. Can't wait.

Re: Coventry-built Electric 1968 Jaguar E-Type
The loss of a "beating heart" in a classic car is a problem, I fully agree. A whisper-quiet Jag wouldn't really be a Jag. But the advancement of electric technology is impressive to see.
While it's way beyond my ability to design or fabricate, I imagine a hydrogen-powered engine would be the perfect compromise. Maybe a custom head casting and cam could work. Direct air-gas injection, multiple exhaust valves to really big headers, electronic injection, ignition, and gas mix controls. Could be fun to make. Add a solar powered hydrogen generator on the garage roof and you're set. Maybe we'll be there in 20 years? |

I have a green fuel system: The injectors are green, I used green (Parker) fittings, I even re-anodized the fuel pressure regulator and dyed it green...
