Murray Arnold - 73 MGB gt V8 RHD
I went to Scotland in 2012 to look for a mk1 escort. I went to a garage in Fyfe to find no Mk1 escorts. But they had in the window a few nice cars. There was a very original MGA and a few Bs. One B, was burgundy with a lovely white leather interior. So I get talking to the owner of the garage, I ask him if I can buy the MGA. It my own car he says and not for sale. But I do have a few Bs for sale. No I say, I would only drive a GT V8. Oh, he says, your in luck, the burgundy one in the front window is a V8. On close examination the car had 17k on the clock, wire wheels, full white leather, Webasto roof and indeed a stock 3.5 rover V8. Heres the but, it had been given a bad paint job in its recent history. I could see that there were issues under the paint that would need addressing. So we haggled and a cash deal was agreed. I left he car, as I live on the Croatian coast, gave a list of additions I wanted and agreed to return in the December of 2012 to pick the car up, with my wife, and drive it from Scotland to Croatia.
So we did. But last year, after having rarely used the car and having starting issues, I decided to start to work on it. First thing was a back to the bones respray. Windows out and all hidden secrets repaired. So what else is going on. Ok so the old exhaust is done, so a new stainless steel tubular system is on the list. New radiator, new engine mounts, swap out the twin SU carbs for a 4 barrel holley, install the missing kick down, new dizzy and a luminition ignition system. New adjustable spax shock absorbers. Oh and now the damn leather needs redone due to lack of use. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/15/2018 05:19AM by murray.arnold. |
