Hi there - wondering if any of the gurus of Sunbeams might be willing to offer me an opinion on pricing of a V8 Alpine I have my eye on purchasing. It looks to be a very well-executed conversion by an experienced Sunbeam owner/craftsman, who has done at least six other V8 or V6 conversions prior. While I'm sure like many restorations the actual expense and man-hours are much higher than what's being asked, I do have to stick within my buyer's budget. We're members of the same Club and I am keen to not disrespect the owner/builder with a low-ball offer. Would anyone be willing to share their advice if I shared pictures and the asking price?

Thanks, Phil - appreciate your quick response. Happy to share some photos. The tricky thing with the conversions - V6 or V8, there just aren't enough market sales data points for me to really assess whether the seller's ask is appropriate or too much, which is why I thought I'd ask here... There is still some work to do on this as well in terms of a respray, and I'd be inclined to work a few more minor brightwork pieces back into the body like trunk lifts, front grille and emblems, but I personally like this paired back, simple aesthetic the builder went for... any thoughts are welcome!

I know that car! Joel (Procraft) On the SAOCA board build. If I was Joel I'd want at least $25,000. He spent a lot of time and money on that build. It does need paint though.

On BaT, I see a V6 sold for $23,000, [bringatrailer.com]

another at $34,250 [bringatrailer.com]

a less than perfect V8 auto at $16,000 [bringatrailer.com] lowballed by a bunch of fusspots imv

another V6 bid to $14,250 [bringatrailer.com]

and another at $25,250 [bringatrailer.com]

this V8 which was of more interest to me at $37,725 [bringatrailer.com]

another V8 from four years ago at $19,500 [bringatrailer.com]

and this V8 five years ago at $21,750 [bringatrailer.com]

Make of that what you will.

In my experience, one regrets more the things one didn't do.
These cars are few and far between, if you want it, buy it.
The pleasure will remain when the price is forgotten.

Probably a good decision to go for that one.
It can take a lot of time and effort to get a car right.

Mind you, if you want the look but aren't particular about the underpinnings here's a Tigerish with Gateway, a 383 LT1 and overdrive auto for just $14,500

OK, it's on an S10 pickup chassis and looks a little peculiar, but at that price no call to get picky over the details!!

Thanks for sharing that Ivor - I’m honestly surprised Gateway isn’t trying to sell it for double that price.
They tend to really jack up the prices. Peculiar is the perfect word.
