Re: Turbo's
Just found a Ford Turbo-coupe and asking about this in the engine section. I have two reasons- your car and that Hemi that outran me. Probably still will not do enough, but looking at a bunch of mods over time. Still not looking for Huge power, just something different. Glad to see these postings.

Re: Turbo's
Twin Turbo Tiger still up and running great. So far best time has been 11:35 @123 mph, on 8lbs of boost. Changed the rear gear to a 3:55 but still has to much gear. Looking to change out to a 3:23 or wait to see what the new motor will do with the 3:55.
Will keep you all posted. |

Re: Sunbeam Tiger: Installing Turbo's
We still us a 8.2 deck motor, it is a stock 302 block now. Just got the pistons for the race motor which is a 8.2 deck World Products motor which will be a 378ci with AFR 225 heads and a great turbo cam looking to make 700rwh on 12lbs of boost on pump gas. Should have it in the car by the end of Feb.
We raced the car in Phonenix and it went 11:30@ 125 on 8lbs. with the stock motor. With the new 3:23 gears I hope the new set up will be as dependable as the stock motor we have'nt had a lick of trouble in the 9 months its been in there. The fuel injection is great , using the FAST system I really think that is why the stock motor has lasted as long as it has. My wife loves how quiet the car is and enjoys riding in it. Its really a sleeper. So why put a big motor in it? I've never been the smartest guy!!! Edited 1 time(s). Re: Sunbeam Tiger: Installing Turbo's
Yes it has a powerglide, really like it with the 3:23 gear in it now. I'm looking at running 9:30's, but have to put the cage in the car, as right now I'm happy the way it is.

Re: Sunbeam Tiger: Installing Turbo's
hoping to go very fast!!!!!!
I'm working on the rear brake setup changing out to disk, hope to have it done by this weekend. Putting disk brakes from a 93 cobra on it, have to make a bracket and do some grinding. Nothing is very simple when you have to modify everything to fit but what the hell keeps me out of the bar. |

Re: Sunbeam Tiger: Installing Turbo's
Seems to me those old top loaders had the capability of being locked into two gears at the same time, in which case they won't budge. Look at the shifter. It seems to me the tranny might not even have an internal lock-out which prevents that.

Re: Sunbeam Tiger: Installing Turbo's
thanks jim i'll check it out, and i'll probably pull the drive shaft out just to be sure. the guy i bought it from said him and his brother pushed it in the barn, but the shifter won't hardly move. i got underneath it tonight and i can move all the shift levers with a 1/2 wrench fairly easy but the car still won't move so i'll pull the drive shaft tomorrow if it doesn't rain.

Re: Sunbeam Tiger: Installing Turbo's
Got the rear disk brakes on from a 93 Cobra and they are working great. This weekend work on the Aerospace setup got the hubs machined and got the bearings to fit and put them on the spindle, looks like it is going to work now just waiting for the rotors and calibers.
Looks like my sponser is coming through with the money for the motor. We will race the car this weekend in a 11:50 heads up class then will take the motor out and start getting everything done for the new motor set up. we are planning a trip to Tulsa June 27th for a mustang shelby race should be 4-6 Tigers there. |

Re: Sunbeam Tiger: Installing Turbo's
Well raced the old 200+k motor for the last time last weekend ran 11:82 @ 125mph got beat in the finals by .006 good close race. Motor had a tough time building boost on a instant green but it stayed together on 14lbs of boost.
Sponser came through with money for the new motor so old motor came out and will be finishing build in a couple of weeks, took the tranny to get rebuilt and the converter checked out, more money. Got the Aerospace brake setup on the front done this weekend just need some new brake lines and a couple of spacers, looks good. Finally updated brakes hope it stops better. Doing some misc. clean up work, getting ready for the race in Tulsa, supposed to be a couple of other Tigers and Alpines there. If anybody makes it there please stop over and say HI |
