MGB Crossmember in an Alpine/Tiger?
I have a 1959 Hillman Husky. It shares the same floor design and set up as the Alpine. I understand these crossmembers will interchange but want something different. I want to know if anyone has used an MGB crossmember in an Alpine or Tiger? I have heard but not seen this to be true.Does anyone know the bolt pattern of the Alpine/Tiger crossmember as I have access to an MGB? Any help would do.

Doug, i have both rubber bumper & chrome bumper MGB cross members in my garage... I can give you the bolt pattern for where they bolt to the frame rails & the hole diameters; what else do you want to know?

Re: MGB Crossmember in an Alpine/Tiger?
The way they bolt to the frame rails is the same. The difference will be the "height" of the cross member -- the rubber bumper one being about 1" taller & where/how the steering rack bolts to it. I'll take some pics of the differences & include that info too. It'll be tonight sometime when i post the info.

Re: MGB Crossmember in an Alpine/Tiger?
Rob,
A million thank yous! I taped some paper and traced your phot and will see how similar it is and if it could be made to work. I hear good things about the MGB's strength and even though those Knee shocks don't appeal to me now they can be improved at a later date. This is exciting as I have some numbers to work with now. Thanks again, Doug |

Doug,
If you can use the MGB crossmember, you might want to consider the Fast Cars replacement. It's a bolt-on replacement for the stock unit, but gives a vast improvement in handling. [www.fastcarsinc.com] |

That's pretty hot. It isn't cheap but it might be worth it... (clip from website)
Price of the suspension is $3825. Comes complete as shown plus stainless steel brake lines. Also available is an extra cost option for 302 Ford installations, which includes engine mounts and rear transmission mount. I suppose it depends on the application. It seems it would make the car safer to operate though. For those of you that know: Are those fabricated spindles or do they look like that? |

Re: MGB Crossmember in an Alpine/Tiger?
Oh boy! I just learned that my wonderful idea may not work. I think I need to look for a plan B. I am probably going to look into one of those aftermarket Mustang II crossmembers as much as I would like something else. I really thank you for your help and I might see if some fancy fabbing could be done yet.

Doug,
You didn't mention why your idea might not work--something about the B measurements? Have you seen the MGR V8 crossmember for sale on the classified page of this website? Kris |
