Will a 4.0 Rover efi fit under the MGC hood?
Hey guys, I am working on a Rover set up for my B. The plan is to build the engine and match it up with the efi system from a 4.0 Rover. I have seen several of the articles on here where the guys machined down the intake in order to fit it under a normal B hood. I thought I saw if you have the 4.0 it is a little tougher because of the size of the center piece. Can one rework the 4.0 efi to fit under the normal B hood or would it be easier to pick up the MGC hood as a replacement?
Total plan is to build the Rover engine close to normal specs (would prefer a good mpg rather than a higher hp), mate it to a Chevy t5 transmission. Still in the air is whether or not to change out the rear end since I don't plan on getting real crazy, just making a few modern changes. Nice to meet everyone officially! ~Michelle |

I received a message from another member that it would fit with the machining. thanks.

It's possible it could fit under the MGB hood that way as well. I think there are some people running that system, you might check the "how it was done" articles to find out.

Re: Will a 4.0 Rover efi fit under the MGC hood?
The intake manifolds and plenum bases (including trumpets) are essentially unchanged from "3.9" to "4.0" - the only differences are in the cover assembly. As shown in the photos, the 4.0 cover is boxier and stands about 95mm tall at the front edge whereas the 3.9 cover tapers down to a little less than 75mm at the front edge. A difference of 20mm is enough that it might be inconvenient to accommodate - but it's certainly possible to fit either cover under a stock MGB bonnet if you're willing to bear that. How much clearance you have will depend on many factors including where you place the motor (fore/aft and height) and also which bonnet you use. (MGB modified the bonnet line sometime around 1973. The later bonnets have a bit more "arch".)

Thanks Curtis. I am putting it into a 1978. Decided to pick up the MGC hood from a board member. As for the fore / aft mounting of the engine, I hope to get some help with that from a guy here in town who has built a few Rover v8's into the B's in the last few years. Bernie just doesn't know how much of his brain I intend to pick :).
