Tachometer Glass
I just added a Potentiometer to my Tach (79 MGB) so that it now works with my V8. In the process, I lost the glass lens for the tach. Any suggestions for getting another (anyone have a broken used tach or speedometer from a 79 "B")?

Re: Tachometer Glass
Don, I think I'd just take the instrument bezel down to a glass shop and see if they can cut you one. It's just a flat piece of thin glass similar to what is used in photo frames. Cutting it round is the only trick, but I'd be they can cut and grind one quickly for not much money. Friends of mine have had replacement door mirrors cut at local shops, don't know why they shouldn't be able to do a round clear glass.

Re: Tachometer Glass
I had bad outside mirror glass and got lectured every time it went through inspection. I had a glass shop cut and grind new ones, used industrial quality double sided tape and if I didn't point it out you would never notice. They've been on the car for twenty five years and are still going strong.

Re: Tachometer Glass
There might be several approaches, but here's our old article on the subject of tach modification... [www.britishv8.org]

Re: Tachometer Glass
I used the modification that Curtis references in his June 7 post - works well. Thanks for the suggestions on glass.

Re: Tachometer Glass
Thanks guys, I'll check it out, "P"
I read the article and as it turns out I have a 1972 tach. I had planed on replacing the insturments with electronic because of the speedometer issue but mod'ing the origional is worth a try, got nothin to loose! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/08/2010 06:44PM by pspeaks. |
