I picked up a mgb roadster from a swap meet it has been sitting sense 1981. There is literature but no specs first off it has a cam a "new world high performance cam" I have searched the web but cant find any info on it and it also says the head was mill but not how much. So I set the timing to 10deg and got it running and man dose it lope. the compression is 145 on all cylinders. First off have you guys head of this cam and secondly what do you think I should set the timing too. Also it will only run on premium

I could use some more details on the engine, like what is it? :)

145 on each cylinder can run regular fuel. If it pings on anything less, check the timing. If the timing marks show a reasonable timing setting like 10 degrees, and it still pings, verify the timing marks are correct. The harmonic balancer ring could've slipped.

My MGB GT with it's original motor had more compression than 145... it was in the 160 range, and I ran it on cheap fuel all the time. Ran great.

Check timing.

As to the cam, I have no idea.

Good luck,

Chris

I believe its still a 1.8L but anything else I have no Idea without tearing it down, its running original carbs and a straight exhaust. I dont notice anything out of the norm besides that. I verified TDC already with my plug hole dial indicator and the balancer hasnt slipped. Thanks Chris for the quick response.
