Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Met Rick and Pete at Gateway Raceway this afternoon and picked up the Roadmaster. Looks great and getting lots of good looks from the crowd even in the company of almost 2000 street rods and street machines. Haven't downloaded any photos yet, will later this evening and post some.

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Thanks to Jim and Curtis, the Roadmaster was the first V8 MG I ever road in, no Hooter’s Girls :-) but I loved it. After that and Curtis' car I'm afraid mine is going to be a let down.

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Maybe not so much as you think Paul. Remember, we aren't really pushing the envelope on power, and as an experienced rod builder you'll have a number of unique features suited perfectly to your own desires. That is the great thing about building one of these cars. As someone pointed out, you can buy a Camaro, Corvette, or Mustang and it will drive and be like every other one. But each of these is unique. You can drive a hundred of them and no two are the same. It takes years for most to end up with the car they really want, sometimes with big changes along the way. In your case it seems to me that you have the advantage of a well defined plan from the very start and that is a great way to build a car.

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Great crowd at Miami today, lots of traffic due to some terrible police work at the main intersection in town, but a good venue. One bad thing, no shade at all except for the vendor tents and the Casino, but they were air conditioned and had a bar so Bill D and I were fine for some cooling time. On to Stillwater tomorrow to meet Rob. Car is running fine, bacvkfired once this morning on start up and blew off a vacuum lline plug which we promptly lost, so a stick in the vacuum line provided a temporary solution fo now. Lots of interesting cars on the highway today as well. We got many thumbs up from other drivers and had our pictures taken by a lot of other motorists.

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Thanks Jim. Lessons learned from my dad; it has always been my nature to work from a written plan. Though often unavoidable, my budget on most projects has not allowed me the cost of paying for mistakes so I research the heck out of almost everything I do. I was crusing the internet one Sunday afternoon at my daughter's house and ran accross Dan's car; I was speachless and a few days later my GT was up on jack stands and I was on my way. Until my wife died and I parked the beloved little car it was my daily driver and I want to make it so again so drivability has been a key factor in pretty much every modification I’ve made. I’m sure I’ll regret it at some point in the future, but with the exception of the intake, carburetor, and headers, I kept the motor stock and I’m concerned the power just won’t be there. Still, it has been faithful to me for over thirty years and I’ll still love it.

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
The Hot Rod Power Tour is a real kick in the butt. Good to be surrounded by thousands of guys and their cars with similiar interests. Too bad not more British Hot Rods are on the tour. I attended in 2010 and 2011 and had fun despite being in a roadster for thousands of miles; it loses it's charm.

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Turned the Roadmaster over to Rob this afternoon around 2:30 at the Kicker Audio complex. He was going to go over to OSU stadium where the show was moved due to rain yesterday which soaked the ground around Kicker to the point that we couldn't park on it. Bill D, and I then headed home and got to KC around 6:30. A few small problems and several things noted in the log book that we will need to address in the future. Rob said he will try to tighten the steering wheel when he gets the car home to his shop, shouldn't take more than a correct sized washer to apply enough pressure to fully seat the adaptor on the shaft splines. The heavy clutch will require more work, likely a winter project. We did manage to get the documents initialied to enable Rob to get the car into the Long Hauler ceremony on Saturday.

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Great day today -- not a lot of pics; will do better tomorrow... But, picked up the car from the Bills (Young & Davidson) around 1:30 at the Kicker complex. Word was the even was moved to the OSU campus due to the rain (most of the parking would be on the grass @ Kicker); later found out there were about 4000 cars in Miami OK the day before & similar expected @ Stillwater & no way they could handle more than 2000 -- that's apparently the real reason they moved it.
OSU campus was easy to get to & we found a great parking spot near the vendor area. It's amazing how many people stop & ask about it. Definitely need some collateral to hand out; did we have someone volunteer to do that? If not, I have some ideas. I was also surprised at how many people knew MG put a 215 in & "got" the decision to "finish" the job by doing a 455 version. Ok, enough talking, here are some pics... Washing the car on arrival. Very cool Austin Healey 3000 -- turns out the owner lives in Houston -- had intended to be at Palestine but got the dates mixed up. Sounded like he'll be making plans for Ohaha! By the way, notice his doors & windwhield? 302 Ford. Jim - I found your motor!! ;). |

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Looks like Bill & my posts hit about the same time. Overall car is running well. The right side exhaust clamp between the header & the rest of the exhaust came loose when we were leaving this evening. Fixed that. Also seeing oil on the frame rail under the headers/around the coil -- may be part of the oil usage. Will have a better look at it tomorrow.
And, like Bill said - Lots of thumbs up by folks just camped out watching the cars go by and also by guys driving some very cool rods & high dollar rides too. That's it for tonight, more tomorrow. |

Re: MG Roadmaster & the Hot Rod Power Tour
Second time that head pipe has dropped down. Might be a good idea to get some sort of permant connection there instead of just the band clamp.
