What heater fan makes the best, easiest, and most airflow replacement for the stock fan?

Fierro is a bolt in, the windscreen would demise twice as fast, and the unit cost is half of a new one from Moss.

It's not a bolt in PJ, you have to cut the opening larger. There has to be something from a newer car with a powerful motor. Fiero is 30 year old tech.

Here is a thread showing Graham Creswick's Hyundai heater fan conversion.

Yeah, it'd be a shame to mod the heater box. What would the purists think?! :D

That looks really good, and being up north and knowing Graham I'd expect that to work really well. I sent him a PM asking if he'd found out what the donor vehicle was, some model of Hyundai. He also had hooked it up as a single speed, I wonder if he found that to be acceptable in the long run but didn't think to ask.

It does appear the hole had to be enlarged. Might be a "shame" to mod the box, but pulling and reinstalling the heater is not a joyful experience. We do need a mod that improves it without all that.

Jim

I have the heater fan from a Hyundai Pony, mid 80's I think. You have to cut the box a bit, about 1/2 inch around but the fan is much stronger than the original and it's a two speed. I paid $10 at the wrecker.

I have attached two photo's, one showing the old fan and the Hyundai fan and the second shows the piece you need to cut out.

I have Magnaflows right under each seat, gets the floor pan pretty warm! Not a blower fan, I know, but had to throw in my .02.

Jim, the guy doing the SBC swap on MGE is using a squirrel cage from a 2004 GTO. It's pretty big but it appears to fit with some serious trimming. I might give it a try with a spare heater box because I bet is really moves some air!

Whilst on the subject of heaters anybody know if you encounter problems mixing metal types as I wanted to make the connection between my heater....which is the larger one sold by Moss and may be hotter but the fan is useless....and engine in copper pipe so that I can put an air bleed valve in the top heater outlet.

Only ask as having lived on a boat I used to get a little twitchy when mixing metals in salty water because of corrosion and electrolosis.

Or am I better off having it made up in aluminium.

Ian
