Re: Info for installing a Chevy engine
I have been reading up a little on modern SBC again since my brother has his LS1 924. I think there are two potential winners: LS4 and the LH6. The LS4 has the small bellhousing, not sure about the LH6 but if it does, thats a benefit. The LH6 is the RWD truck version but i have not determined if the LH6 is an alloy block or not. I would not even consider it if it wasn't. Either of these or the old iron SBC is a bit of a fit from what you guys have said in the past and I still recommend the masses to stay away from this type of conversion.

Re: Info for installing a Chevy engine
I am very glad too see some people using LS chevy engines. I have built up alot of them for people and I have a couple vettes. I hope to end up with a LS conversion someday. But for at the moment I have a 302 ford which is plenty enough for now.

Re: Info for installing a Chevy engine
Tony,
I wondered that but the heads are shared with the LS series systems so maybe if a fellow could get their hands on the LH compact parts, it would be equivalent to the Ford Exploder V8 conversion for being compact with an alloy block to loose weight. -BMC. |

Re: Info for installing a Chevy engine
Looks like it's aluminum block and heads for the LH6. Here's the link to Chevrolet's site describing the construction. [www.chevrolet.com]
You have to click on the engine tab in the specifications tab to get the construction. Doesn't mention the LS4 as it's not a truck application. |
Re: Info for installing a Chevy engine
That a good engine built but is the engine will be compatible with some chevy truck parts?i mean if it will not cause any malfunction in terms of performance and when you start the truck?I experienced some and when we changed the engine some parts did not matched with each other.

From Wikipedia
Not sure of the engine dimensions though. The Vortec 6000 L76 or new VortecMax is a Generation IV aluminum small block V8 truck engine based on the Holden L76 engine, and features variable cam phasing, along with Active Fuel Management. It can be considered the replacement for the Generation III LQ9 engine. It produces 367 hp (274 kW) at 5400 rpm and 375 lb·ft (508 N·m) at 4400 rpm. Production started in late 2006, and is only available with the new body style Silverado and Sierra VortecMax. L76 applications: 2007–2009 Chevrolet Suburban 2007–2009 Chevrolet Avalanche 2007–2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2007–2009 GMC Sierra 2007–2009 GMC Yukon XL |
