Cobra Eater- or Iteration part deux

After much harassing from my 2 sons- they have convinced me to step up and go for the hail mary

After spending 3 years building my sons runway top speed car he convinced me to step up to his motor so he can pursue his
Viper dream race car

so we are sticking this into my 68 MGB GT

With the Procharger he was well into 4 figures, so it should be plenty for my little car

It will be a LQ9 iron block 408 with a T56 behind it.

Right now he is running a F1-X at about 12-1350hp depending on fuel and tune
Our plan is to see how it runs w/o a blower at 6-700 hp and if we can do enough to the chassis maybe put a YSI blower back on
for 900+hp. And then try some of the smaller runway events

I know a lot of people will question our motives, but this will not be a drag car at all. They are roll on races. Much easier to control how the car handles and what abuse it can take

My son does the ones in Texas
His favorite is the Texas Invitational- what started as fun with 1000hp has now gotten serious with cars over 2300hp now-That why he is moving from the supercharged Vette to a twin turbo Viper- but he still wont have enough to match the top cars-(It's amazing the speed that money buys) Some of the Lambos will have $500k+ invested

I will start a little smaller and go with one called the Runway Rivalry also in Texas- they limit cars to 1000hp max

Just picked up a lightly used T56 from a totaled Trans Am as well as a block to help with mock-up

Just an update
Got the mockup engine in. Both tranny and engine mounts built. Have the alt bracket built. Everything fits nicely under stock hood. Now it's time to clean up some holes and get some headers started.

I'll admit I don't know anything about LQ9's... But it looks to me like the spark plug holes would be inaccessible if the motor is mounted where it's sitting in the pic. What am I missing?

Surprisingly there is plenty of room. I will post pics showing the sparkplug access

Here is a photo showing there is plenty of clearance for the plugs, exhaust etc.
The LQ9 is the stronger iron block LS out of the Escalade- it's a must when building big boosted power

G. R.

I'd really be interested in seeing the firewall mods you've done. I'll be watching your progress with interest.

I cut mine back a little more then you. I wanted to make sure I had a lot of clearance to aid in air flow for cooling. Not sure if it will actually help (if not I just added extra work in cleaning up the holes) but I thought it was worth a try
I will have some pics with the engine back out shortly

Finally have something to update. We got some nice weather and it was back into the garage.

Had to modify some things on the engine-
I blocked off the heater hose ports on the water pump- going to be a fair weather car so not needed
also got a straight water neck, as both the neck and hoses ran into the frame rail of the MG

I'm using C5 Corvette accessories, so all I had to do was notch the alternator bracket and it allowed the the alt to
fit under the hood with no clearance issues

By using the Vette pump and accessories it allowed for a shorter install as they are tucked close to the block

Added the C6 pan for clearance (shallow Pan)

you can see where I cut out for the exhaust- the black template will be stainless trim rings I'm having made

started on the headers-Boy, do they take patience! Just MIG tacking them at this point and then will got back
and TIG them for a nice clean look. Hope to have them finished in a week or so and then sent out to be Jet-Coated
