1987 Mark VII Donor Car for MGB V8
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and am looking for some advice. I've got an old 1987 Lincoln Mark VII that I've had in the family since it was purchased new by my Grandmother. The unibody rusted out so bad that there's no saving it. I'd like it to live on as a V8 MGB. I'm going to be pulling the engine out of it this upcoming weekend before sending the car off to the wreckers. Can anyone here comment on what additional parts I'll need to keep from it? 1) Engine and all associated wiring, computers, etc. 2) Tranny (automatic, but hoping to sell and get a T-5) 3) Rear End (I've heard the stock MG rear ends can handle the extra power, but if I have it should I swap it anyway after having it shortened? Thanks, Gary |

Re: 1987 Mark VII Donor Car for MGB V8
Hi Gareth,
Welcome to the forum!!! I actually used a 1990 Lincoln Mk VII LSC for my Donor to build my MGB. Here is what I kept and a couple of things that I forgot that I wish I would have. 1. Engine and accessories 2. Transmission, (mine was an automatic, which I sold, and bought a T-5 3. EFI harness and Engine harness and CPU 4. Throttle cable 5. Starter or remote solenoid 6. MAP or BAP sensor, located on the firewall which is attached to the intake manifold 7. Charcoal Canister for fuel vapor line, Charcoal canister solenoid 8. EGR solenoids should be 3 of them 9. Driveshaft to be shortened and uses the same spline for the manual t-5 10. Rear end and Brakes, also emergency brake lines 11. Fuel pump, it can be modified if you would like for a submerged fuel pump 12. Connector for the Alternator 13. Battery even if bad, you can use it for the core charge when buying a new one 14. Exhaust system, you can sell the catalytic converters separately to scrapper and possible reuse mufflers if they are still good 15. Wheels for rolling your car around until you buy new ones 16. Fuel pump relay and relay block and actually all relays 17. Fuel inertia switch located in the trunk 18. all electronic modules from the inside if they work, they can be sold on ebay for other mark vii owners 19. voltage regulator 20. ignition coil and spark plug wires That is all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps and good luck on you build. If you are curious on mine it is in the project journals under NB 63 MGB |
