New HIWD: Mike Alexander's Magnificent MGB GT w/ 302
Please join me in congratulating Mike Alexander on his third exceptional MGB V8 conversion!
This one is a GT, and it's also Mike's first with a Ford 302. Here's the link: Mike Alexander's 1974 MGB GT with powerful Ford 302 crate motor! Please note that Advance Auto-Wire and Mantell Motorsport sponsored this article. |

Mike,
I just joined the forum, and was looking at the project cars in the Gallery. I noticed your three beautiful V8 powered MGB's in the gallery, and had one question. It looks like the exhaust headers are pretty much identicle on all three cars, except that the GT needs a header to fit the Ford Windsor heads rather than the BOP/Rover aluminum heads. It looks like the headers dump in the same place inside the front fenders. I was wondering if the headers restrict the turning radius of the cars? It looks like the inside shoulder of the front tires might rub on the collectors, if you aren't careful making a u turn. I'm just curious as I think about eventually finding a suitable British sports car for a "poor mans cobra" project. |

The headers do no interfere with the tires or turn radius,The came from Mantell Motorsports.

Beautiful build Mike. One recommendation - ditch the Orange Fram PH8. After reading a few reviews, I switched to a better filter and notice WAY better oil pressure. I'm using a Mobile 1 filter, but I believe purolator, Bosch, and a couple others also test out very well.

I use the Purolator PureOne, but I put a Purolator BOSS on my son's Honda Accord coupe. He uses the Castrol EDGE Extended Synthetic, We change it every 10,000 miles

Motorcraft, must be a reason Ford uses them as OEM. :-) I believe they are made by purolator.
