Wheel studs question
Posted by: bob74bgt

First post and question! I will be installing a MGC wire wheel diff in my steel wheel BGT V8. I have seen the Corvette stud swap but I do not want to go with a metric stud. Any thoughts on a good fit 1/2" fine longer stud?

Sky's the limit on finding a suitable 1/2" stud with the right stud length and knurl. Here's a Dorman chart to help....

Graham,
Thanks. I will pick up the MGC 3.3 diff on Monday and am looking forward to getting it installed. I think first gear will be fine but 5th may need to be swapped out for a .73. I am also going with a 22 lb flywheel and removing the aluminum one. Still a ways to go before this car drives as nice as my old TR8 but its getting there.

Before you make an assumption that your OD gear ratio isn't optimized, input your driveline parameters into this handy speed/RPM calculator.

Graham,
My plan is to do the diff swap first then deal with the flywheel and clutch after a test drive. If 5th is too tall then when the trans is out for the flywheel swap it will get the .7 5th. The bolt pattern for that 10" clutch on the aluminum flywheel turns out to be a mid 60s V8 mustang. Right now I would prefer a taller 1st gear so the 3.3 will help that. I talked to a mechanic about my noisy lifters and he had a thought on it. All just more crap to deal with....
